In this episode, we meet with Maria, whose husband's sudden death left her fending for herself and her young children. Like so many others in her situation, she tried to deal with her pain and sorrow by drinking. But she was able to hold things together for the sake of her kids.Although 15 years later, she's still haunted by one particular heart breaking occasion when her drinking meant that she let one of her daughters down.When the kids went away to college, Maria's drinking ramped up. And so she sought help through Alcoholics Anonymous. But after years of going to AA meetings, it just wasn't working for her. Although she still loves the community and even the spirituality, the 12 steps were not for her.She needed a more empowering approach.
