Aloita ilmainen kokeilu shopify.com-sivustolla.

You're welcome back to Alive and Kicking. Now, three years ago, Neil McDermott, a farmer and landowner from Leash, bought a beautiful building that was built by an architect as a family home, but has now been reworked as a luxury Arivedic retreat centre. It's a very special place. My jaw was on the ground from the minute I drove up and saw it in the distance. And I went to meet the owner himself to hear how he went from the field. To retreat centre owner. Arunatula is the Sanskrit word meaning fiery, unmovable mountain, and you can see the sleeve blue mountains and surrounding countryside from all angles of this incredible curved building. I actually don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it.
Clare McKenna 1:20
I tried my best to bring you on a tour, but I really feel it needs to be seen to be believed. And I started by asking Neil how he came to Aurveda.
Neil McDermott 1:29
Ayurveda comes from the word Ayos meaning life or change and Veda meaning knowledge of. So it's the knowledge of life or change and as you know everything is changing, life is changing. So you get your bearings then i i it is primarily based on body types. So you have a fiery type, you have a well at start off what you have an airy type, a fiery type, and a water and nerdy type. They're called vacuum. Va vata, pitta and kappa. So that's the fundamental issue. So in other words, if you're helping a person to rejuvenate themselves, you deal with the particular body type. So if you're a fiery type, well we try to cool the fire. If you're an airy type, we try to ground you. And if you're a uh watery and um uh earth type where you might need a kick in the ass to get uh moving.
Neil McDermott 2:40
Uh uh but the it's it's a great body type, but we tend to be very lethargic. So that's about the the course of it.
Clare McKenna 2:50
What's what's yours? Are you willing to share yours and what you learnt on the journey?
Neil McDermott 2:54
Yeah, I'm fine. Yeah, I'm Pitta Pitta Kappa, which is fire and Earth the the fire and uh earth tea and water type which is fif fifty fifty about we can all be a mix of of both and they could be out of validly uh uh anyone it's in us all. In fact I have a little bit of vata seemingly my lips are vata. uh some but uh uh i i s seemingly not much fat any, which is the air the airy type.

Who is Neil McDermott and how did he acquire the Arunatula property?

Clare McKenna 3:27
And it's the treatment, the nutrition, correct, the time and contemplation that can reset.
Neil McDermott 3:34
Exactly. Yeah. So we deal with the body type which is also reflects the mind type of course. You know, if you're if you're for instance, if you're uh the kappa type, which is uh the water and the earth, you tend to be uh rather stocky and very strong and uh have a great memory but But if you get angry you might kill someone. Uh it i that that's in the extreme. But it's a great uh great body to have from a whole um digestive point of view. It's it's it's very uh strong. But then the fire is It keeps you uh moving. And um If if you're too much out of balance, said You need to just balance it back to what your natural Body type is.
Clare McKenna 4:30
And so people who come here will not only learn about these principles and lean into some of the the big treatments that we we looked at in the treatment rooms, but they'll learn how to bring it then into their everyday when they leave.
Neil McDermott 4:42
Oh, correct. And uh a lot of people would already have a smattering of knowledge of it. But uh but uh also of course by example if somebody n knew someone that was treated this way, uh, they would want to go because uh it's like me when I went to India first I I I heard of it and uh I wanted to find out. And then when you find out you see through your own experience rather than talking about it.
