Content Warning: Suicide. In this episode of All the Therapies, Abby and Mona talk to Scott Rowland, LMFT who is a therapist and supervisor at a community mental health agency. Over the past year with COVID, people have been experiencing more crises including sudden unemployment, isolation, illness, and loss of loved ones. This has led to an increase in suicidality, substance use and increases in mental health distress. Scott unpacks what Community Psychology is all about, what you can expect if you or a loved one needs crisis services and how to talk about these difficult subjects. Scott Rowland, LMFT Bio: Scott Rowland is a clinically trained psychotherapist with over 20 years of working within culturally diverse communities throughout Los Angeles. He chose to complete both his Undergraduate and Master’s degrees at Antioch University, due to their intense focus on community engagement, cultural diversity and social justice. He began his career developing culturally sensitive prevention programs for LA Gay & Lesbian Center, eventually working with agencies throughout South & East LA, Hollywood & Long Beach. Through insight, empathy, and support, Scott is able to develop a safe trusting environment for the therapeutic process. Scott has extensive experience working with adolescents, adults, families, and the LGBTQ community, as well as communities with diverse backgrounds. He specializes in trauma, depression, anxiety, severe mental illness, addiction, & issues related to identity.
