Understanding People Skills In The Workplace - DISC Profiling

20 Dec 2020

Description

“My team all have different [behavioural] styles for a reason. It’s a conflict if they don’t know about those different styles, but it’s power when they do.”  Such a powerful statement from this week’s PPMP Podcast guest, the ever-amazing Cate Schreck, Founding Director of Lightbulb Training Solutions (LTS). Understanding people skills in the workplace goes much further than a simple team meeting. There’s a highly effective method for assessing behavioural traits, and it’s probably not what you may think. In this episode, Cate walks us through the intricacies of DISC Profiling - a method for assessing behaviours to help improve teamwork, communication and productivity in the workplace. DISC Profiling is made up of four behaviours: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance.  BONUS: Get your free DISC Leadership Assessment Sample here! Cate takes us through the power of profiling, its role in recruitment, how it’s useful for leaders, and much more, including her reflections on COVID. Different people embrace, cope with, and adjust to change in various ways. We all have different styles of doing things. Thus, it’s only natural for people to respond to things in the workplace in different ways. One of the (many) standouts from this episode is the use of a DISC Assessment for building on your leadership skills.  From a leader’s perspective, the first place you should start with is getting to know yourself before facing your team. Being self-aware is remarkably powerful as a leader. Understanding what your style is, helps you learn how to lead your team, as you’ll know where your strengths lie, and also where you might need to improve. Through adjusting your leadership style, you can get the best out of people in your team who might not share the same style as you. Consider this: How can you impact any of your knowledge on your team if you aren’t that familiar with your own leadership style? As I leave you with that question to ponder over, I would also like to wish you all a safe festive season and a happy and healthy New Year.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
