When we have trauma as children our nervous system often learns that life is about avoiding pain as opposed to attending to pleasure. In other words, we adopt an unconscious strategy of chronically seeking survival instead of enjoying our growth. As we grow up, automatically, unconsciously and reflexively attuning to potential threats became a "default setting" in our mind and body that keeps us trapped in anxiety and alarm. We must first be aware of this unconscious default setting to pain and begin to make the CONSCIOUS INTENTION to attend and attune to pleasure instead. In this change in conscious intention towards growth and pleasure, we begin to overwrite the unconscious setting of protection. Thank you for listening and you can find me on IG: @theanxietymd if you have any questions. P.S I wrote THE book on healing anxiety. It's my life's work so that you don't have to suffer like I did.
