99. Painting with Purpose with Sophie Green

This week’s episode features UK based wildlife artist and animal rights advocate Sophie Green. I felt like I was talking to a girlfriend in this interview. Sophie just kept it real and says it like it is, but in the nicest possible way. She’s full of advice and this fun fact was a first for me… Sophie gets a lot of her commission requests from Twitter. I’ve never had an artist say that in an interview. It’s always Instagram or art shows or any traditional route, but never Twitter. We talk about ways to get more work and where to focus your time as a self-employed artist. She shares how it took 3 years for her to transition from teacher to full time artist. She found a method that worked for her and now she’s seeing the benefits of it. She mentions to leave your ego at the door especially when first starting out as an artist and I think that will hit home to anyone in the beginning of this art journey who is not getting immediate sales and beating themselves up over it. It’s okay! It’s okay to take a few years to get to a goal and it’s okay to not have people banging at your door right out of the gate. Even with this podcast if you go listen to the first couple episodes, oh boy, I had no idea what I was doing. Now a year later I feel like I’m just getting it figured out and we’ve just begun to grow. Having a goal in mind and a direction to head towards is something that has helped me and Sophie be “successful” and she shares how she went about it this interview.
