Spotlight honors Carol E. Semrad, MD, Professor of Medicine, Director of Adult Clinical Nutrition and Small Bowel Disease, Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at University of Chicago Medicine. Dr. Semrad highlights the limited nutrition training in GI programs and the importance for physicians with interest in nutrition to find mentors who are experts in the field. She emphasizes the need for more clinical nutrition experts and resources for nutrition programs. As she discusses her own nutrition support team and how they have expanded to manage in-patients and out-patients, she shares how gratifying it is to see nutrition support restore nearly starving patients to health and allow them to lead more functioning lives. Physician Spotlight is a forum for outstanding Senior Leaders, Young Rising Stars and International Colleagues in the field of nutrition to discuss important topics and ideas that impact patient care.
