This Spotlight honors Renee Stapleton, MD, Professor of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Burlington, VT. When Dr. Stapleton was a fellow, she became interested in research and saw nutrition in the ICU as an open box, with many unanswered questions. She has since led multiple nutrition RCTs, including a trial examining the effect of combined exercise and protein delivery in critically ill patients. Her advice to trainees with a research interest is to find good mentors, learn from the research coordinators, focus on developing strong writing skills and invest time to take workshops on grantsmanship and publishing. Physician Spotlight is a forum for outstanding Senior Leaders, Young Rising Stars and International Colleagues in the field of nutrition to discuss important topics and ideas that impact patient care.
