22. How to identify The Origin of a Piece of Furniture Based on Its Design and Proportions
09 Feb 2024
In this episode, I'll be talking about the differences in furniture depending on where they're made. Of course, we shouldn't generalize, but I hope this can be helpful. United Kingdom: Tradition in classic and vintage-style furniture. Use of woods like mahogany, cherry, and ash. United States: Dominance of contemporary and modern-style furniture. Common use of hardwoods like oak, walnut, and maple. Emphasis on functionality and comfort. Tendency towards simple designs and clean lines. Italy: World-renowned for high-quality furniture design. Use of luxurious materials like leather, marble, and glass. Influence of modern Italian style, with fluid lines and soft curves. France: Renowned for elegant and refined style. Use of woods like walnut, cherry, and beech. Furniture with curved lines and intricate details. India: Diversity of regional and cultural styles. Use of tropical woods like teak and rosewood. Hand-carved furniture with traditional and religious motifs. Use of ornate textiles in upholstery and decoration. Asia: Variety of styles influenced by local culture and traditions. Use of woods like bamboo, teak, and rosewood. Minimalist furniture with clean and functional lines. Focus on harmony and simplicity in design. It's important to note that these are generalizations and that diversity within each region can lead to significant variations in furniture styles. Thank you for joining in; your support genuinely means the world :) Miriam Prada A bit about me... I am a Building Engineer and interior designer, specializing in high-end projects. With 15 years of experience in the design industry, I've had the privilege of collaborating with a wide range of clients, including developers, builders, real estate agents, entrepreneurs, and private clients. I've successfully completed over 25 projects in seven different countries (Spain, the United Kingdom, Bahrain, India, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, and Switzerland) and have had the pleasure of working with clients from 11 nationalities. My most valuable project to date exceeds £50 million, and one of my notable achievements was designing a development of 16 apartments where the penthouse set a historic record as the highest-priced one-bedroom per square meter in the history of Westminster, London. Currently based in London, I continue working on multiple local and international projects. Leveraging the capabilities of the digital world, I've produced and launched this podcast, 'Atelier Prada,' where, in a relaxed and colloquial way, I address various topics in the world of interior design with the goal of sharing some of the knowledge acquired over these years.
