Australians Teach English

EP 62 Bash

22 Nov 2021

Description

There is nothing that Australians like to do more than talk about sport. And as we come in to the Summer months, there's one sport that dominates conversation in Australia - cricket. So in this episode, we're bashing it out. And of course, there is nothing that unites (and divides) some communities in Australia, like cricket. And that's how I met my friend and guest on this week's program - Prashant. I met Prash when we both decided to have a bash at our local cricket club in Darwin. He recounts his experiences of leaving the mega-cities of India, and the cultural shock of arriving in a small city such as Darwin. We talk about how cricket is an excellent example of multiculturalism and mult-lingualism in Australia. In our matches, we talk about how you could hear, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil and English all in the one conversation. And of course, we talk about the word bash. Now a familiar Aussie word, you will even come to know the "Big Bash" - a cricket tournament in Australia. Enjoy this conversation and we hope it doesn't leave you bashed up!
