What health update does Matt share about his shingles and MRI trip to Newcastle?
Whenever you're ready, guys.
Welcome to the John's Family Podcast for another week. Guys, how are we all? Everyone going good? Good, man. How are you? Yeah, you know, as you know, I'm still not good. Yes, yes, yes, you people who mock me about not feeling well when my health continues to deteriorate.
Well, you know what? You just don't take well enough care of yourself.
I do look after myself entirely. Did a drive up to Newcastle specifically to see a certain doctor who my physicist mate put me on to.
Can I ask, Dad? Yeah.
Who was that, Albert Einstein, was it?
Yeah, can I ask you? You're a physicist, mate. No, can I ask you, because you went out to Newcastle. Everyone knows you've been sort of unwell lately on your shows and whatnot. You've always had the groggy voice or you've come in here really tired.
We're missing Monday shows.
We missed the Matty and Crunk show for like five weeks.
Five weeks?
No. I've only been there one of the five weeks.
Because you're crook. What were the circumstances that led to you going up the Hume? Hume?
Yeah. Hume goes to Canberra.
Newcastle's like Pacific Highway, bro. Pacific Highway. What's the geographic challenge?
It's confirmed. Our youngest sons are fucking needy.
It's so true. There's a lot of them around at the moment. So what happened? Joke's on you. There's another one out there that you guys don't know about. He's the youngest. And he is a fucking idiot.
Circumstances of this, I was coming back. I went up to the Gold Coast, then did a show at Lismore. And then on the flight back, I was in agony with my back shooting around into the ribcage. And I got back and said, I've got to do something about this. And now my GP's away and it's hard to get good care. So I rung my mate Albert Einstein and said, Jimmy, Have you got anyone? He said, mate, there's a doctor up at Newcastle at Belmont who's the best GP in Australia. He's the best kept secret. I went up and saw him and did a series of tests. I still can't work out what it is. I've got an MRI to go yet.
I would like to think. So all the tests showed it was nothing?
He believes. No, he believes what it was, my sickness. He said it was shingles.
It's never a good sign when a man of science says, I believe it was this.
He's a very good doctor. Shingles. He did the whole test on me.
No, he's had shingles, which would explain the nerve pain that he's been having.
He said, have you had shingles before? I said about four or five times.
Well, actually three.
And he explains why I had all these scabs on my chest.
So what do they say causes shingles? Depleted immunity. Poor hygiene? Yeah. No. No, it's the chickenpox virus in your system still. So it comes back out as shingles once you've had it as an adult.
So you've just got adult chickenpox? Essentially.
Yeah. But there's a lot more going on in his back, mate. I've got an MRI scan.
So you continue- You almost want yourself to have something. This whole year, he wants to have something. He wants- And he gets no sympathy from us.
All he ever does is he talks about everyone else being a hypochondriac. It is like the old thing where an NRL player pulls out of a training session, they go for a scan, and they are hoping that they have an injury because to get out of pre-season and to just not look like a little bitch. Is that what you're thinking? No, I'm not. Well, if you go get an MRI.
Because I'm in legitimate pain, even sitting here. I'm going to put my fist into my back just to ease the pain.
I'm glad you said back.
A lot of people have.
Sorry, guys, I just sneezed. Out of nowhere. Now, you remind me of that Silas from the monk from the Da Vinci Code that just keeps whipping himself in the back. Yeah, yeah.
Yes, it looks like a highlander.
He's an albino.
Yeah, he flails. He flails himself.
Flail. I think it's albino. Oh, well, either or. We saw someone flailing themselves at the airport in Bangkok.
We did, we did. What, with a whip? He didn't have the little things on it.
He did have things on it.
Yeah, but things that weren't cut in his back. So Silas, there's like a Christian sect that basically cut themselves across their back and they wear these chains around their legs to give them constant pain.
