What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

Kaya Purohit 0:00
We have women who have not ovulated for years who start ovulating again and are able to get pregnant. We did a trial with 40 women. 40 women between 18 to 45. This was just looking at PMS and it was amazing. Every single symptom that we tested significantly improved. We're talking 70% and above.
Kelly Leveque 0:19
I think people don't realize that birth control is completely shutting down your hormonal system and all you're really doing is just breastfeeding. putting those off for the future.
Yasmin Nouri 0:26
Went on birth control for a good two decades and it wasn't until my early 30s I decided to come off and it was when I came off the pill where everything that I experienced as a young teenager came back a hundred times worse. It's not wellness if it's causing that much stress.

It is such a pleasure to have Yasmin Nori and Kaya Pruitt on the show. Perfect. Today. You're like, perfect.
Unknown 1:05
You said it right.
Kelly Leveque 1:06
I'm like, I know your brother, Drew, and your husband, Drew. And you guys are sister-in-laws that started the seat cycling company, Bia. And we were talking before the show, and I was like, seed cycling? No, I'm just going to put flax and chia in my smoothies every day of my cycle. And that sounds like witchcraft to me, but I can't wait to share this study. You guys had a Citrus Labs trial that actually showed improvement in PMS and symptoms around a period using seed cycling. We are going to unpack all the science of that and the history of your business, how you guys decided to start a business. You both are also working moms. So we'll talk about on today's episode, really balancing work life, family life, and carving out time for yourself.
Kelly Leveque 1:55
So I just want to thank you guys both for being here on the show today to talking about your entrepreneurial journey and sharing the story of how you decided to start a seat cycling company. We're so excited to be here.
Yasmin Nouri 2:06
Thank you for having us. You know, we're so honored. We're so excited and we can't wait.
Kelly Leveque 2:10
Awesome. Well, let's talk about Bia because it started with you, Yasmin. Yes. You came off birth control and what happened?
Yasmin Nouri 2:19
Oh my gosh, what didn't happen? I feel like my hormones came back with such a vengeance. And just to give a little bit of a backstory, I feel like this was so common in the 90s. You know, I was 12, 13, had horrible periods, bad PMS, cramps that I couldn't go to school. And my doctor gave me birth control. Didn't really ask any questions because that was the thing to do back then. And went on birth control for a good two decades. And it wasn't until my early 30s I decided to come off. I was like, why am I still taking this pill? And it was when I came off the pill where everything that I experienced as a young teenager came back a hundred times worse. The, you know, cramps that literally had me on the floor multiple days throughout the month.
Yasmin Nouri 3:01
You know, breast tenderness that any time I would touch or put a shirt on, it would be so painful. Acne, which was like the cherry on top, which was so bad that I couldn't even go out. I was so embarrassed and insecure about myself. And, you know, it's so sad because looking back at that time, I thought those PMS symptoms were normal. Like, literally being on the floor with cramps, I was like, okay, this is just the time of the month and, you know, what women go through. And it really wasn't until, you know, I met Drew, Kea's brother, and Kea, they've been in the world of functional medicine for two decades, where they started planting the seeds of like, let's look into this. Like, this isn't normal.
Yasmin Nouri 3:35
I'm like, what are you talking about? We all suffer. Like, what are you saying? So, you know, I ended up seeing a functional medicine doctor. She talked about seed cycling. And similar to you, Kelly, I'm like, girl, what are you saying? Who has time to take seeds? Like you're telling me to have flax. And then when do I take pumpkin? And then when do I take sunflower? And you're telling me to like buy it all and do it every day.
