Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

1.313 - 22.731 Beau

Well, howdy there, Internet people. It's Belle again. So today, we're going to talk about Trump and Obamacare royalties. So, the President of the United States posted a pretty shocking claim. On his social media site, Trump posted an image that said, quote,

Chapter 2: What shocking claim did Trump make about Obamacare royalties?

23.065 - 52.738 Beau

Breaking, Doge halts yearly payment of $2.5 million to Barack Obama for royalties linked to Obamacare. Obama has collected this payment since 2010 for a total of $40 million in taxpayer dollars. Trump shared the image with the caption of, quote, Wow. Wow is right. So, to start and to be clear, this isn't true. It's not even remotely true.

No part of this is correct or could be correct, including the math. You can't get royalties from a government program because it uses your name, especially when the actual name is the Affordable Care Act. Literally, none of it is true.

But this should be obvious because the claim appears to have originated with the Dunning-Kruger Times, also known as America's last line of defense, although they said 2.6 million. I'm not joking. The Dunning-Kruger Times. For those who don't know, the Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias that leads people with a low ability to believe they're better at something than they really are.

The website About Us section says, quote, Everything on this website is fiction. It is not a lie and it is not fake news because it is not real. If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined. Any similarities between this site's pure fantasy and actual people, places, and events are purely coincidental and all images should be considered altered and satirical.

It gets better. It then directs people to the literal definition of the word satire and goes on to say, quote, Taters are the conservative fans of America's last line of defense. They are fragile, frightened, mostly older Caucasian Americans. They believe nearly anything.

152.339 - 178.639 Beau

While we go out of our way to educate them that not everything they agree with is true, they are still old, typically ignorant, and again, very afraid of everything. To recap, the President of the United States, the guy who said he has a plan to fix Obamacare, apparently understands it so well, he believed there were royalties linked to it.

179.024 - 200.982 Beau

The guy in charge of nuclear weapons shared information that has been debunked from a website that openly mocks conservatives, and that was named Dunning-Kruger Times. All the stuff suggesting he tried to deploy troops to Portland after seeing years-old footage seems a lot more likely now, right?

201.586 - 229.163 Unknown

Look, he posted it. You have two options. Either he believed it or he didn't. Maybe he fell for an obviously false claim because of confirmation bias. Or maybe he didn't, but thinks so little of his supporters that he believed they'd fall for it. I'm honestly not sure which is worse. Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
