Episode 30 How Starting a Covid-19 Garden is Like Starting a Beauty Business
01 May 2020
There is so much that gardening has taught me these days, so much so, that I can’t help comparing it to starting a beauty business. You have everything in mind, you want everything to be in place and you buy everything you could ever think of that would help run things smoothly. And experience teaches me that in gardening as it is in business, it takes sacrifice and patience to grow the plants and grow your business. You don’t expect fruits and vegetables to be harvested two weeks after, that’s never the case. In business, there is the knowledge gap you have to consider, the learning curve to face, and it takes time. It is way more expensive than you could think of. That’s why you need to have a strategic plan to see you through all the facets of handling your business. Panicking lets you take on way much more than what is necessary. It is purchasing many tools more than what you need for gardening and for business, it is offering deep discounts that would pave for serious repercussions in the long run. It is like, all you can think of is activating all of those panic buttons. Those will never help, there are lots of creative ways you can do to serve your clients. You can choose to adjust your pricing points. Another thing to consider is adding value to your service. Asking your clients how to serve them better is also one good idea. Sure, some of the topics I tackle in the episode, we already know them. It’s just that, we act as if we don’t know them. This episode reminds us to revisit our goals and plans and have actions in place that will help us meet them amidst this trying situation. As one quote says, “When things go wrong, don’t go with it.”
