I've broken ranks and I've gone with a coffee on the table, which I don't normally do. Crazy. Because Baby Martin decided on a three-hour wake window from 1am to 4am last night. Good hours. Good hours. He's also decided he doesn't want a bar of me putting him down to sleep or resettling him. So for the bulk of that three hours, he was just screaming at me. Yeah. So we're at loggerheads at the moment. It's a good time. I don't know. Have you got any tips or advice for a sort of 1 a.m., 2 a.m. resettling shift that isn't going well? No. Oh. No, I don't.
Okay. Okay.
What's the vibe in the house like? What's the dynamic at home? Dynamic's good. How are you divvying up the recess?
Well, I used to put him to sleep prior to the World Cup. I think the World Cup's ruined my life because we were in a good little routine. And then I disappeared for a little while. And now he's very mum clingy.
Yeah.
And I don't want to break that.
No. But I feel very spare part at times. Yeah. And I think that was my advice to you. For the first 12 months, you are going to be a spare part. Routines will fuck you up. Okay. Because you will get into a good routine like you were. I was. And something will change and then, oh shit. Yeah. That's why you never break once you get into a good routine. So either you never break from it.
Don't have a routine at all. Yeah. Or never break a routine.
How have school holidays, parenting and ‘spare part’ dad feelings been affecting the hosts?
And there's no middle ground. And that's the advice. Yeah. Okay. I'll remember that. So yeah. Yeah. so I'm a little bit on the back foot okay but you know all goods all goods you've got school holidays at the moment which is an interesting time because normally three of your kids would spend six hours a day at school so what do they how do you fill that gap yeah good question yeah thanks
pride myself on asking the school holidays work in a bit of a wave where it starts off they all quite like each other's company and it's it's good and then it turns feral about the weekend in between and then the second week is a is a slog uh i've been having some really fun conversations with the kids it's the hardest thing when you've got four kids is to have one-on-one time with each of them because they always want to hang out in packs or share the time but anyway um my nine-year-old nearly 10 year old uh he asks me these leading questions i'm never quite sure where they're going so he sat me down he's like um dad what do you think the population of the world is oh what do you think the population of the world is seven billion six billion
Is it because we talked about this yesterday?
No. I know we talked about it yesterday, but I wasn't really listening. When you asked me, I was like, is it?
