Seamus Marten 0:00
Welcome to the latest episode of Accidental Business Owners. In this one, we talk about our meeting with Jeff Ross and Grant Baker, two former guests of Between Two Bears, two of New Zealand's best business minds. We went to them with the question: what would you do with the attention we have? And we break down our full two-hour conversation with them in Auckland. Speaking of questions,

Di Foster 0:44
celebrate your wins. Yeah. Did you celebrate the wins like he celebrated the wins?
Steven Holloway 0:49
I no, I went home and had a hot chocolate. You had a burger? I didn't have a burger. I had a burger and chips. I can I say something as well while we're all in the spirit of honesty of opening this episode. Please. I made a bad burger decision and I had you in my ear saying, Have the Kansas burger and I was like, Oh yeah, I'll have the Kansas Burger and it was a terrible burger. I feel like I wasted my my one burger that I could have had. Oh, yeah. But anyway, I'm not blaming you. I gotta take responsibility.
Seamus Marten 1:14
We also had a creaming soda for a drink, which I thought was an interesting choice. Gosh,
Di Foster 1:18
that's straight back in the eighties. Okay, so anyway, for those who don't know what we're So anyway, for those who don't know what
Seamus Marten 1:21
we're what we're selling, we won an award. We won a business award. Acc accidentally. There you go. Uh we won the Small Business Marketing Award at the World Cup. Yes. Between two beers won the award. Marcus won it. Marcus did
Unknown 1:38
the entry. Marcus collected the award. Yeah, we
Steven Holloway 1:40
sent him forward to c we acknowledged that and we sent him forward to collect to the award. Because it was I mean he was a he was a large part of his work.
Seamus Marten 1:47
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Steven Holloway 1:48
In marketing our work.
Seamus Marten 1:50
It was really cool. Uh as you know, as listening to this show, Marcus has been on the last two episodes. It's been a huge part of our growth. Uh the entry involved like one specific case study. So we sent in, well Marcus sent in. Um The Steven Adams episode rollout was the example we used of sort of exceptional marketing. Uh and so normally with an episode we release sort of two or three clips. But with Steven Adams, we did fifteen on Instagram, fifteen on TikTok, thirteen on Facebook, fifteen on YouTube Shorts. We did. Yeah. And they collectively received nineteen point seven million views. across all platforms and we got twenty thousand new followers as a result. And yeah, it was like an exceptional world class rollout.
Seamus Marten 2:40
So yeah, all of that was in the entry. Marcus put it together beautifully. And we are now finalist for the small business Of the year. That's right. At the big dance in November. In November.
Di Foster 2:50
For Waikedo.
Seamus Marten 2:52
Waikato Chamber of Conference. Three of us that won in different categories are are all finalists for the the big award. Yay. Yeah. How did it feel? How did it feel, Shay?

How did the team recap the award‑winning marketing rollout for the Steven Adams episode?

Steven Holloway 3:01
Oh, I was uh like it felt great. I felt really happy for Marcus. Oh, I love it. Um he is up for another a similar award at the Auckland Um Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. But for him it was a first like his first award and first acknowledgement um for his work. And I thought that was really awesome. And there was a
Di Foster 3:18
More specifically for his work. Correct.
Steven Holloway 3:20
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And um Yeah, I think if you if you get your work recognized, it's a really nice thing. It is. Um and it was it was cool to be in the room like a room of Waikato businesses as well.
Seamus Marten 3:31
But there was another cool little twist on it too, is that your previous employer was the one that sponsored the award.
Steven Holloway 3:38
Yeah. Don't go looking for any collusion or anything like that either. Like we won it legitimately. Um but yeah that was also that was cool too to But to
Di Foster 3:46
tie that back in that's how you knew Marcus in the first place.
