BEYOND: The Podcast for Moms Called to Business
Ep 270: How to Define Enough and Design a Brand and Life You Love with Bri Summers of Brighten Made
10 Oct 2023
Warm desert hues highlighting shades of pink, a playful yet refined boho vibe paired with hand drawn fonts and custom illustrations… this is the aesthetic fingerprint Bri Summers has become known for through Brighten Made, her branding and web design studio that serves female entrepreneurs. With a distinct style that has evolved over the past six years, Bri and her team have tackled an array of design projects, from full branding for small businesses to book cover design for Jenna Kutcher. But the thing she's proudest of as an ambitious, enneagram-3 creative entrepreneur? It's the life she's built alongside the growth of Brighten Made. The freedom and flexibility Bri once dreamt of as a recent college grad bored with aspects of corporate life have led to a reality she loves. And building a business on her terms has never felt more rewarding than now as she transitions into life as a brand new mom. (Though this episode was recorded during her pregnancy, Bri and her husband Joe welcomed baby girl Navy in September 2023). On this episode of BEYOND: The Podcast for Moms Called to Business, Brianna shares some of the defining moments in her journey to building a successful design business and how preparing for motherhood led to asking some important life questions she hadn't really considered before. During this interview with Bri, you'll learn: Why Bri believes mindset and confidence are key both in owning your own style as a creative and in building a business on your terms Why defining "enough" is crucial in designing a business and life that you actually want to be living, especially when you value quality of life and don't want to work 24/7 What it looks like to create work with integrity, and how she stays interested and inspired in her own creativity without overconsuming social media How Bri has leveraged her unique design style as a marketing strategy where her work "sells itself" How growing a team led her to true time freedom and the ability to prioritize rest and travel How pregnancy forced her to slow down and lead to life-changing reflections about what's most important in life, and what isn't How God has used her business to both grow and humble her What her (loose) plans are for her maternity leave and beyond I hope this episode is so encouraging when you think about doing life and business differently as a creative entrepreneur, educator or coach. Freedom and being able to create our own rules are two of the compelling reasons so many of us are drawn to entrepreneurship, and yet making that reality is a completely different story. Giving yourself permission to do things your way can come with doubt, fear, imposter syndrome, FOMO and so much more – but when you want to live a life that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside, it's so worth it. If you want to continue the conversation beyond the podcast, if you are ready for the combination of life support and business strategy you need in navigating the highs and lows as a mom and entrepreneur, I want to invite you to apply for 1:1 coaching. Working with me privately is kind of like having a business therapist, marketing strategist and personal trainer for your brain all-in-one.
