BEYOND: The Podcast for Moms Called to Business
Ep 77: Why You Can't Stop Watching the News
27 Mar 2020
Our modern world makes access to the news easier than ever. It's at our fingertips - just a click or scroll away and available 24 hours a day. The words "Breaking News", once a rarity seen once in awhile across television screens, is now an everyday, minute-by-minute event. The news industry is a business that invests time and money into getting our attention by writing headlines that appeal to our desires for comfort and safety. The language and psychology used in the news media draws us in and we're hooked - spending hours, entire days even, glued to the news. But is it serving us well to live this way? Today, as we navigate the coronavirus pandemic and want to be responsible and informed citizens, it's just as important to be mindful of what we're consuming. What feels necessary and important, doesn't always serve us well. On this bonus episode of Beyond Happy we're talking about why you can't stop watching the news, and why you might want to cut back.
