Have you kept ta kept tabs on events back home?
Very much so. Greta's at time being frustrated that I've been tracking it because I do think it's been a remarkable final series and there's been Great games, but also great stories going through it as well as the sort of trade period and other things spicing up as well. So football, Australian football is alive and well.
If we revisited your crystal ball, the Lions and the Dockers did make it, as you foresaw. They just took the securest route to get there.
Yeah, it was turbulent, wasn't it? I I'm I'm I still Yeah, if we go back to the start, both teams took the first week of finals off and thought it was unnecessary. Um, wanted to make sure that they were playing four the the fourth game in a row when it came to the grand final. Um I think we got the right grand final though, Jared. All I think all things being equal, um you know, and and we were fortunate to have two remarkable preliminary finals where both of the grand finals looked at stage as that they weren't gonna make it as well. So it was a great final series. You know, there was a few sliding door moments for both Hawthorne and probably Geelong in in my mind, were probably the two closest that things could have
look a little bit different. Um but I'm happy with the grand final. I think they're the right two teams um And I think, you know, you're looking at like big clutch moments o on both s in both prelims, but I I still think from what I've captured, that Hayden Young goal is one of the biggest final moments that I can remember.
How does Phil Davis view the relegation system and could it work in Australian football?
I I I honestly they don't win if he misses in my opinion. I don't I don't see how they win if he misses. And that spot on the SCG is not easy for a left footer as well. Um and I've always thought in my mind that Fremantle can't win a grand final if Hayden Young's not fit and healthy. Um a bit like Will Day for for Hawthorne too, and maybe a a a slightly fitter Will Day changes the result too. But that goal from A Young was one of the most remarkable kicks I've seen in a final.
Yeah, it's a special place in Docker's folklore for it, especially if things go the way they desire on Saturday. Is is Fremantle ready to win its first premiership?
In my mind, I can mount very strong arguments for both sides this weekend. I I think lots plays into the favor of free man. There are little things that are a bit more uncomfortable for Freya, like the flight backwards and forth. It would be quite a tricky trip for them, um, just purely size. They haven't played in a grand final in a long time. Um Yeah, the I I I think I think there's they play a style of football to me that is the most predictable. I think I said that a month ago as well. Like they are your you know, your sort of stock standard, they are your FTE if we're using trading term ETF so if we're using trading terms, like we know what return we're gonna get. It's gonna be seven to ten percent and it's gonna be good.
Um But the the thing that concerns me for them is they just don't bat as deep with just pure star power, like pure, pure star power. No one does to be fair. Brisbane outbid everyone on pure star power and that and that is the only area. Um I think free man are a more dependable team. Like I think you know what you're gonna get. They've been outrageously consistent. All by two weekends this year, they've shown up and played incredibly well.
