I think there's some reason for more vigilance, I would say, rather than concern. I think, for me, the list is very good. I think it's a list that many clubs would envy. It does look a bit different when you just throw out some of the names that are leaving, but I think if you actually scrutinise it... I don't think there is significantly, excluding Toby, that is. I think, you know, Jesse Hogan's been an amazing player. However, his injuries, you know, the last 12 months, we've seen that, you know, Aaron Cadman got to another level. So I think there's some hope and scope there.
Which emerging players could fill the void left by Toby at GWS?
I think they definitely need another player, like someone like a Hayden McLean would make sense to me that would go. So I could get someone like that just to help Aaron out. You know, Jake Stringer had a great season. I think seventh and best and fairest. Kieran Briggs was in and out of the team. So there is some... Some notable names obviously led by Toby, but the young talent is there. I do think there's an opportunity to get to the draft just before Tasmania goes if they could find a way. I think that's probably why Himmelberg and Whitfield have been flagged.
Why is it so hard for NSW clubs to attract and retain experienced coaches?
But I think that's the playing side of it, Gerard. I think there is also concerns a little bit around just the coaching situation. I just think it's really hard. to get experienced coaches up to New South Wales. And that's something that the AFL really need to look at. And the same problem exists for the Swans too. So it's not... isolated to the Giants, it's just really difficult, Jared. You have most, you know, if you think about 10 of the 18 clubs are from Victoria. It's, you know, not many people, you know, 60% of the draft, I believe, is Victoria as well. So if you factor all that in, not many people, you know, who finished their career are going to rent their house in Victoria to move to Sydney and pay a very high premium and sort of go backwards in standard living to coach.
And I think that's a problem they just keep butting their head against.
