The New York Times is an extremely respected newspaper, especially in the world of literature, of books, but I think they made a big mistake in their list of the best books of the 21st century, the opinion of this humble reader. Many of you have probably seen that article that has been going around there. I'm not here to hate, as you would say colloquially. I'm not here to criticize the authors or the books that were selected.
I'm here to give, at the end, a list of books that I think could be included, but I don't want to subtract, I want to add. Because I think there was a problem in the selection method that the New York Times had, and I think it is a very structural problem in the way of thinking of the newspaper and the way of thinking of society. The New York Times, for how great they are, I think at this point they are no longer victims of society, they are part of this machinery, and that is the argument that I want to bring you here. So again, all the authors that appear in this list are talented, one more than others, other books better than others. But in the end, a list was made to remind the audience that perhaps it is a little more away from the world of books than literature follows, that the classics are still being written.
