Annie Duke, as I mentioned, is a professional poker player in the United States. She has won several titles, prizes, tournaments throughout her career. More than 4 or 5 million dollars in prizes.
She became the woman who had earned the most money in poker in history. Now she is in fourth place according to the latest reports. Very respected in that circle. But before becoming a poker player, she studied psychology at the University of Columbia, Southern New York. It's one of those Ivy Leagues of the best universities, or more exclusive at least, of the United States. And then she did a PhD in another Ivy League, in cognitive psychology, at the University of Pennsylvania. Just before, there was only one month left to finish the doctorate. Basically, she learned everything that any other student learns that ends with that title, with that doctorate. But she had a bit of an existential crisis combined with lack of affection or love for her vocation.
And he decided to retire a month before graduation. He retires, does not get the title and decides to start playing poker. Not that he didn't do it before, but he decides to dedicate himself to poker. And that academic training gave him a very unique perspective. because she saw not only the mistakes that we made, but also the mistakes that poker players made. She began to see the mistakes of human behavior and little by little she joined those two worlds and that's how she became this successful player. She has written other books, The Middle Zone, about how to play poker, or on the subject of decisions, more psychological, but this is perhaps the one that gave her fame, very popular, and I simply want to discuss some of the points that I found most interesting about the book.
