Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
A Listener Production.
Hi, I'm Hannah. And I'm Sarah. And this is Big Small Talk.
This is the podcast where we try and cover the entirety of the news cycle, from the serious to the frivolous, all in one place. Because loving pop culture doesn't mean you don't understand politics.
And today we're going to be talking about Gwyneth Paltrow's new ad, Musk becomes a trillionaire, the World Cup and the Knicks, Iran peace deal, Olivia Rodrigo new album, and Indy Clinton's court outfit.
But before we begin today's episode, we would like to start by acknowledging the traditional owners of the land on which we're recording today, the Gadigal people, and pay our respect to elders past and present.
Before we get into the actual news, Hannah, how are you feeling?
Fuck, I'm itching for a break, hey?
Mid-year?
Do you feel like that? It's getting cold and I like that. I love the cold. Really? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sweet darling, I'm from Orange, you know, please. Return to the country roots. It's fucking freezing in Orange. I'm actually going to Orange this weekend to do some wineries with school friends. So it'll be really nice.

Chapter 2: What prompted Gwyneth Paltrow's controversial ad for a luxury development?
Yeah.
I don't think anyone can be listening to this and think that this has been a normal year. And I know we kind of say it every year, but this has been particularly heinous. So what you need to do is like a mid-year reset. Okay. Take us through that process. What does it look like? Pinterest, pinboard, dream vision journal. I've surrounded myself with people that have like a fucking junk journal.
Do you do a gratitude book? No. It's scientifically proven. It's really nice. What happens in a gratitude book? Like, is it laid out with like, you have to list three things every day? Yes. You list like things that you're focusing on today, things that you're grateful for. You have an affirmation, but they give you some affirmations to pick from.
So you kind of read through and go, oh yeah, that one I liked today. And then you do it in the evening as well.
You know, when you feel like you start to sound conservative, when you listen to these things and you go, oh, that's for those young wokes, you know, It's like when you say you're talking about gratitude, you're like, oh, yeah.
It's literally just saying, here are things I'm grateful for scientifically. So beautiful.
Proven to help. Empathy, humanity, beauty, reflection, awareness. And I'm like the old cynic. I'm like, I'm not spending my dollars on that.
I think I do talk about it on Small Talk a lot, but I find that really helps. And I find I do a bit of goal setting around mid-year. Wow. Oh, and a haircut.
Yeah, go do something that like makes you like feel better. Well, last year for my birthday, I was going to buy myself a makeup lesson. I didn't want. I'm grateful. I've given you one. You gave me one at the end of 2024 and I forgot some of it. I did film it though. I was going to go and just try a new foundation and like get some product recommendations from an expert sort of thing.
