George Clinton and Funkadelic created a masterpiece in September 1978 when they released 'One Nation Under a Groove', a swooning, grooving, oozing mass of bomb ass beats, synthosized warbles of funk and a enoclastic gabble of funky beats that would change the world. For me, I was introduced to George Clinton and this blast of funk as I entered my junior year of high school. In no time after it's released, the vibe and groove of Funkadelic penetrated the heads and hearts of all of the music lovers in my hood in every way imaginable. We'd hear this music and all of the great black soul and dance music on music stations such as WAAA in Winston-Salem, NC, my hometown radio station, and on WQMQ, from nearby Greensboro, NC. Along with this music there was another wave of smooth R&B, cool ditty bop disco-soul hits and other music was filling our ear lobs. Hot songs from groups such as Switch, L.T.D., the Bar Kays, and great R&B from Ashford & Simpson, Rick James and others.
