News when you want it. With Bloomberg News Now, I'm Doug Krisner. The sell America trade was back in full force across U.S. financial markets today. President Trump's demand for U.S. control over Greenland stoked anxieties about potential worst case scenarios. And that would include a rupture in the NATO alliance or perhaps a full blown trade war between the U.S. and Europe.

Over the weekend, Trump announced a new 10% levy on eight EU countries opposed to his plans to seize Greenland. Today, we heard from French President Emmanuel Macron. He said the U.S. tariff threats will not help the global economy to thrive. Here is Macron speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

72.34 - 90.04 Emmanuel Macron

I mean, it doesn't make sense to have tariffs and be divided and even to threaten now with additional tariffs. We can use it. I mean, the crazy thing is that we can be put in a situation to use the anti-coercion mechanism for the very first time vis-Ć -vis the U.S. if they put additional ties.

90.06 - 110.869 Doug Krisner

French President Emmanuel Macron speaking at the World Economic Forum. Meantime, Treasury Secretary Scott Besson, also speaking at Davos, said there is a reason why President Trump has set his sights on Greenland. And Besson told EU leaders, do not retaliate. Here is Besson on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, speaking with Fox Business Conversation.

111.338 - 142.924 Scott Besson

I tell everyone, sit back, take a deep breath. Do not retaliate. Do not retaliate. The president will be here tomorrow and he will get his message across. I believe he is going to have meetings. And again, also have an open mind. Why this rapid response in terms of this is a no? And by the way, Maria, this has been in the minds of American presidents for more than 150 years.

142.944 - 163.362 Doug Krisner

That was U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besson speaking to Maria Bartiromo with the Fox Business Conversation at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Incidentally, on Wednesday, President Trump will be speaking to the gathering. Meantime, Finnish President Alexander Stubb says there is a short-term need to de-escalate language on Greenland.

163.422 - 167.333 Doug Krisner

He added that he's been communicating with President Trump over the issue.

Chapter 2: What impact does Trump's demand for Greenland have on U.S. foreign relations?

167.583 - 193.87 Alexander Stubb

Of course, on the Greenland issue, I disagree with the president. I think now what we need to do is to bring down the temperature. We need to find an off ramp and probably create some kind of a process which will strengthen Arctic security. And sort of at the end of the tunnel, I wish we could have a NATO summit in Ankara where we all agree on a new Arctic security.

193.93 - 209.689 Doug Krisner

That is Finnish President Alexander Stubbe speaking to Bloomberg on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. After the bell, Netflix reported fourth quarter results largely above Wall Street estimates. However, the company did issue a cautious forecast for the months ahead.

Netflix is planning to increase spending on films and TV shows by 10% this year, while at the same time moving ahead with plans to buy the studio and streaming businesses of Warner Brothers Discovery. We got reaction from John Belton at Gabelli Funds.

225.413 - 243.832 John Belton

Top line numbers generally look pretty healthy. Good update on the subscriber number at over 325 million. That suggests that 2025 was another pretty solid year for member growth. I think the big disappointment in terms of the numbers is just on the margin guidance, 31.5%.

0

243.952 - 258.247 John Belton

I think that adjusts to about 32%, if my math was correct, if you back out that acquisition-related cost number that they flagged. So I think that's probably... OK, but a little bit short of expectation.

258.307 - 280.851 Doug Krisner

John Belton of Gabelli Funds speaking on Netflix. The top federal prosecutor for the Eastern District of Virginia, who pursued indictments against a pair of President Trump's adversaries, is leaving her position. Lindsay Halligan's departure comes as multiple judges cast doubt on her ability to remain in the job after a court ruling two months ago found her appointment was illegal.

Chapter 3: How did President Macron respond to U.S. tariff threats?

280.831 - 303.683 Doug Krisner

Halligan was named to the job on an acting basis back in September and was pressured to pursue indictments against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. U.S. forces have seized another tanker in the Caribbean. This would be the seventh ship taken since President Trump announced a blockade to prevent sanctioned vessels from going to or from Venezuela.

303.663 - 322.279 Doug Krisner

In a statement, the U.S. Southern Command said the ship was operating in defiance of President Trump's established quarantine of sanctioned vessels in the Caribbean. Supreme Court is hearing arguments on Wednesday over President Trump's effort to oust Fed Governor Lisa Cook. More on that from Bloomberg's Amy Morris in Washington.

322.748 - 341.38 Amy Morris

Fed Chair Jay Powell is expected to attend the Supreme Court hearing on the Trump administration's attempts to fire Fed Governor Lisa Cook based on allegations that she committed mortgage fraud, which she denies. Cook spoke about those allegations in November at the Brookings Institution. And multiple briefs filed by my very skilled legal team.

341.981 - 360.286 Amy Morris

Questions related to this case and its potential impact on the Federal Reserve. have been addressed at length. Critics say the justices are being asked to effectively bless Trump's efforts to undermine the Fed's independence, giving the president the power over interest rate policy. In Washington, Amy Morris, Bloomberg Radio.
