Democratic leaders in Congress say they're working on legislation to block tariffs against European countries who oppose a U.S. takeover of Greenland. And European lawmakers have now called for a halt to a U.S.-EU trade truce as ambassadors meet today to discuss the bloc's next steps. This comes as thousands march in Greenland in protest.
This is important for the whole world. There are many small countries. None of them are for sale.
President Trump says he hasn't ruled out military force, but Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen says NATO would implode if Trump attacks. Syrian troops fighting Kurdish-led forces have seized key oil and gas fields in the country's east. Reuters reports the troops took control of the Omar oil field, which is Syria's largest, as well as a Conoco gas field. Clashes have erupted there amid efforts to integrate the Kurdish group into Syria's new government. The FBI has asked agents across the U.S. to travel to Minneapolis now for temporary duty. The Justice Department and Homeland Security have already increased their presence there. And the Pentagon has troops on standby now for possible deployment to Minnesota if violence escalates.

The markets are closed Monday for MLK Day, but after the closing bell on Tuesday, Netflix is set to release earnings from the most recent quarter and could be riding high thanks to big releases like Stranger Things Season 5.
