News when you want it. With Bloomberg News Now, I'm Doug Christer. Tropical storm Lala is pummeling the island of Hawaii. So far, one person has died. This storm has the potential to bring nearly three feet of rain and damaging winds to parts of the state. Already about two hundred thousand homes and businesses are without power, and they face days without electricity because the storm has down transmission lines that connect parts of the state. Power plants to homes and businesses. We go to the Middle East next, where Lebanon saw its deadliest day of fighting in months. A total of eleven people died in strikes by Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes were in retaliation for a Hezbollah attack, injuring three Israeli soldiers.
Now the IDF said it killed a senior Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon on on Saturday, on Sunday, Israel said it would strike the Iranian proxy group again if threatened. The fighting on the periphery of the war with Iran may further complicate what appears to be deadlock negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Their formal ceasefire agreement ends on Monday. Pakistan, the mediator, said some days ago that the parties had decided on a de facto extension of that MOU. That was denied most voluably by Iran. And it's worth remembering that in the interim, we've had these talks involving Oman about some kind of property share for the Hamoos in terms of directions of access. Iran says those talks continue. In fact, it says the US isn't involved. The United States says it. Has been involved and Imman has served as a mediator. So there is an overarching, or should we say, a backdrop mechanism still ongoing.

I think you're actually gonna have to see positive actions from the government of Iran. They're either gonna acknowledge that they are agreeing to free flow of commerce through the straits or other demands of the administration. So it's gonna take action at this point. I don't think rhetoric is still going anywhere. They're gonna have to act. And acquiesce on some of these objectives and and that's what no one's seeing and who can do that may be part of the problem.
That is retired Vice Admiral Robert Harward. President Trump has instructed the Pentagon to cut joint military drills with South Korea. Tonight in a post on Truth Social, Trump said these exercises are not only costly, with much of the cost paid for by the U.S. Trump also indicated he recently asked the President of South Korea if they would like to join the U.S. in the denuclearization of the Islamic Republic. Colombia has asked the US to pause tariffs as it deals with a deadly disaster, more from Bloomberg's Monica Ricks.
