News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Karen Moscow. President Trump is renewing his claims of momentum toward ending the conflict with Iran. The comments come after the president brokered a halt to hostilities between Israel and the Islamic Republic, easing tensions that had threatened to derail broader peace efforts. We get more with Bloomberg Middle East correspondent Abir Abu Omar.
President Trump spoke to reporters in New York saying that ongoing negotiations with Iran are still happening. He said that we could have an idea on the Iran deal by one or two days at this point. And he said that the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz will continue to hold until this MOU or the interim deal that we've been talking about over the past couple of months comes to place, essentially.
And Bloomberg's Abir Abu Omar, the U.S. president, spoke hours after Iran and Israel agreed to halt strikes on each other following a flare-up that saw both countries launch waves of ballistic missiles. Meanwhile, the president says two crew members on board a U.S. Army helicopter that crashed near the Strait of Hormuz were not injured. The U.S. Army Apache attack helicopter went down near the strait in unclear circumstances. The California governor's race appears set a week after the primary election. Republican Steve Hilton is projected to advance to the general against Democrat Javier Becerra. Democrat Tom Steyer saw a surge in late-arriving mail-in ballots, but it's not expected to be enough to overtake Hilton.

California largely votes by mail and the Republicans and Donald Trump have been pushing against mail in ballots for years now. So it's not surprising that Republicans generally don't vote by mail in that climate. So when they count late arriving mail in ballots, they turn heavily, heavily towards the Democrats, which is what happened both in the governor's race and obviously in the mayor's race.
And that's Bloomberg's Megan Crane, who reports Tom Steyer spent more than $212 million in his losing effort, helping make it one of the most expensive governor's races in U.S. history. Primary elections continue today, with voters heading to the polls in Maine, Nevada, North Dakota, and South Carolina. The Maine Senate primary may be a foregone conclusion. Neither Democrat Graham Platner nor Republican incumbent Susan Collins is facing serious opposition. But Bloomberg government Zach Cohen reports... This is still one to watch.

Graham has faced a series of serious accusations, especially from former girlfriends, and most recently a report in The New York Times that found some of his dating behavior disturbing. It will be interesting to see the turnout in that Senate race, especially compared to the gubernatorial primary. And if there's a significant protest vote against Plattner, against some other sort of less well-known candidates, that could set off some alarm bells in Washington.
Bloomberg government Zach Cohen reports Democrats still see Maine as one of their best shots at unseating a Republican senator and taking the majority in November. House Republicans will look to get nearly $70 billion for immigration enforcement over the finish line today. That would be enough to fund a pair of Homeland Security agencies through the next three years and the rest of President Trump's time in office. MegaCap IPOs usually tend to slump in their first year of trading. SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic are looking to change the game. With offerings so big, they'll be too much for investors to ignore.
