News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Monica Ricks. At least nine people have been killed so far in clashes between pro-Iranian protesters and police in Pakistan. They've been trying to break into the U.S. consulate in Pakistan's main port city of Karachi this morning. Police used tear gas and fired warning shots to disperse the crowd, but before authorities say protesters stormed the gates. Iran's warning of more counterstrikes following the death of its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. But in a new True Social post, President Trump warned Iran not to retaliate, saying if they do, we'll hit them with a force that's never been seen before. Attacks could last weeks. Now, most Republicans have voiced support for President Trump's action in Iran, but Democrats want answers and say the Trump administration reaching out to the gang of eight isn't the same as getting congressional approval to go to war.

We live in a constitutional democracy where the president is required to come to Congress to weigh in on whether we risk American lives for any objective. That still needs to happen.
Congress faces a war powers vote this week that could curb the president's authorities to take further action. Meantime, oil shipments are seeing big disruptions now in the Gulf. We get details from Bloomberg's Ed Kalecki.
Oil shipping has largely paused in the Strait of Hormuz that links the oil-rich Persian Gulf to the open seas after the U.S. and Israel bombed Iran, with Iranian media saying the waterway is practically closed. Ships reported hearing a radio broadcast purporting to come from the Iranian Navy announcing that transit through the waterway was banned. Several tankers that had been heading toward Hormuz have turned around. A large number had already paused to wait near the entrance to the waterway after the bombing started. The disruption is impacting everything from crude oil tankers to container ships that carry furniture. Ed Kolegi, Bloomberg Radio.
