News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Nathan Hager. The White House is officially facing a lawsuit from three major media outlets that President Trump has barred from the White House grounds. CNN, MS Now, and Politico filed the case this morning, calling the president's move a direct assault on the First Amendment. Bloomberg's Megan Crane has more from Washington.
In the past the um First Amendment grounds have been cited as a way to get journalists back into the White House. Um when they revoked CNN credentials in the past for individual journalists, they were able to get those reinstated after, you know, some time through litigation.
How are the upcoming US‑China trade talks with President Xi expected to affect the economy?
Bloomberg's Megan Crane reports CNN was scheduled to provide pool coverage of President Trump this week, and now multiple outlets are reporting major T V networks have agreed not to cover the president, saying no administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting. The Trump administration is touting high level talks with China ahead of this week's state visit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. We spoke with US trade representative Jameson Greer.
We're focused on outcomes. So we could spend all day talking about excess capacity, which is a huge problem, and I have an investigation going on, or we can just act to protect our economy and and find ways to accommodate the Chinese to prevent things from blowing up.
US trade rep Jameson Greer tells Bloomberg surveillance a three to six month extension of the trade truce is possible, but it's not likely to be announced this week. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant has announced progress on the tech front. We get more on that from Bloomberg's Tyler Kendall in New York.
The US did confirm that the two sides will establish a dialogue related to AI, though the initiative appears initially to be aimed at managing the risks rather than establishing binding limits on what development would look like.
Bloomberg's Tyler Kendall reports Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is on the guest list, along with NVIDIA's Jensen Huang, Sam Altman of OpenAI, and former Apple chief Tim Cook. This morning, President Trump posted on Truth Social that the U.S. is working on a quote, massive deal with Belarus on potash purchases.
What AI and technology leadership lineup is planned for the US‑China dialogue?
The President says it will cost less than what the U.S. is currently paying Canada for the fertilizer. The news has fertilizer. Stocks in this country falling. Nutrient is down three and a half percent. Intrepid potash is down two and a half percent. While stocks as a whole are surging, the S P 500 is up one percent, the Dow Jones Industrial Average 4 tenths of a percent higher, the tech heavy NASDAQ composites leading the gains up 1.6%, tenure treasury yield is down about three and a half basis points to four point nine six percent, and crude oil. Is on the decline. Brent is down three point six percent, trading above a hundred dollars a barrel. West Texas Intermediates around ninety five and a half dollars, a decline of four and three quarters percent.
That's on hopes for diplomacy between the US and Iran. President Trump told Fox News over the weekend he would be open to speaking with Iran's president while he's at the UN General Assembly this week.
Why are fertilizer, oil and stock markets moving today?
Bloomberg's Patrick Sykes has more for Miss Stan Bowl.
We have of course been here before. I think the hope will simply be that in the context of the UN General Assembly, with, you know, all the countries of the world watching and pressuring for a resolution to that crisis, that that will be enough uh to bring some kind of resolution or at least uh sketch a path towards one.
