After a two-hour meeting in the Situation Room, the New York Times is reporting President Trump left without making a decision on a possible deal with Iran to extend a ceasefire by 60 days. Bloomberg's Jumana Birsechi has more on what's being considered.
This would be a memorandum of understanding, an MOU, that would entail a 60-day extension to the ceasefire, during which the first 30 days Iran would commit to an unconditional reopening of the a demining of the straits in exchange for some form of economic relief. And that is a big sticking point because we just don't know yet what sort of sanctions relief or unfreezing of assets that the U.S. are willing to offer over that time frame.
Bloomberg's Jumana Prosechi. This comes as Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency reports that the text of the possible memorandum of understanding has undergone changes in the past few days and is not finalized. Meanwhile, Chevron CEO Mike Wirth says several vessels transiting through the Strait of Hormuz have been attacked in recent days, underscoring the very real risks that remain for ship owners in the Persian Gulf, whether or not a peace accord is signed. Wirth, a guest on Bloomberg Television, says there have been multiple incidents of vessels being attacked while in transit, with some reported in the media and some not.

Meanwhile, on hopes the Strait of Hormuz will be open soon and a ceasefire deal could be near, Wall Street saw fresh record closing highs for all three major averages today. The Dow added 363 points, up nearly three-fourths of a percent. The Nasdaq gained 55, ahead 0.2%. The S&P rose 16 points, up nearly 0.25%. The 10-year Treasury yielded 4.44%. The 2-year Treasury yielded 4.01%. Brent crude is down more than 1.75% at $92 a barrel. Attorney General Pam Bondi refused to answer questions about Donald Trump's involvement in the release of case files on Jeffrey Epstein during a closed-door hearing with House lawmakers today. Speaking with reporters, Virginia Congressman James Walkinshaw says Bondi was asked directly whether Trump knew about Jeffrey Epstein's crimes before they became public.
She had the opportunity to say Donald Trump certainly wasn't aware of those crimes. She had the opportunity to say, I know Donald Trump, and if he was aware of those crimes, he would have done something. Instead, she said, I don't know. She also said, quote, this is a direct quote, I'm not certain of the extent of his knowledge.
Virginia Congressman James Walkinshaw. Lawmakers are trying to find out what decisions prosecutors have made about investigating Epstein associates and whether President Trump was involved in the process of releasing the Epstein files.
