What are the latest developments in US-Iran tensions affecting the stock market?
The UK stands apart as a place to do business, not because of one advantage, but many working together. Over £10 trillion in capital, four of the world's top universities, a 10-year industrial strategy in action, its stability with dynamism, global reach with local depth. It all adds up to greater growth. Find out more at business.gov.uk slash growth.
news when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Karen Moscow. We'll have the latest on the arrest of former Prince Andrew in just a moment. But first, a rebound in U.S. stocks has faded as concerns about a possible conflict between the U.S. and Iran saps risk sentiment.
How is the market reacting to geopolitical concerns and oil prices?
Oil is extending its rally. The S&P 500 down three-tenths of a percent. The Dow Jones Industrial averaged down about four-tenths of a percent. The Nasdaq down four-tenths of a percent. Ten-year Treasury yield at 4.09 percent. And Michael Ball is a macro strategist for Bloomberg News.
The market's kind of mulling everything over. It's not seeing a clear picture on the AI angst for sure. There hasn't been any new developments there to put that to rest. And on top of that, as you just said, the geopolitics are kind of weighing more and more every day as oil creeps higher.
And that's Bloomberg's Michael Ball. While oil is jumping on reports that the U.S. may be edging closer to war with Iran than many Americans may think, and we get details with Bloomberg's David Gurra.
We're looking at two different tracks here. There is this diplomatic track. We had Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner meeting with Iranian officials in Geneva for the second time, and there are plans for negotiations. another meeting in a couple weeks time all the while we've seen president trump marshal all of this u.s military might in the middle east more is on its way i was looking what axios was reporting this morning the armada trump's armada has grown to include two aircraft carriers a dozen warships hundreds of fighter jets and multiple air defense systems.
And that's Bloomberg's David Gurra taking a look at oil right now. West Texas Intermediate at $66.33 a barrel, while Brent is at $71.50.
What are the implications of former Prince Andrew's arrest?
We turn now to the latest on the Epstein investigation and the arrest of former Prince Andrew. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the brother of the UK's King Charles, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office after further details emerged of his relationship with the convicted sex offender. We get more with Bloomberg's Louise Moon in the UK.
The key question now is what's going to happen next? So we've had a statement not long ago from the former prince's brother, King Charles, saying that the law must take its course, that the police have his full support with cooperation, with the investigation and the whole process. And so that's really, as you say, the key question, what's going to happen next, whether or not the former Prince Andrew will be charged.
And that's Bloomberg's Louise Moon. Emails released by the U.S. Department of Justice last month showed the former prince allegedly disclosing confidential government information to Epstein during his time as UK trade envoy. It's a position he held between 2001 and 2011. Andrew turned 66 today. Billionaire retail tycoon Les Wexner told a U.S. House panel that he visited Jeffrey Epstein's private Caribbean island, but said at the time he was not aware of any sex trafficking operation involving the disgraced financier. Wexner testified behind closed doors about his relationship with the late sex offender to Democrats on the House Oversight Committee.
What details have emerged about Prince Andrew's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein?
Meanwhile, Apollo Global Management told clients its top executives had no business or personal ties to Jeffrey Epstein after newly released Justice Department files named CEO Mark Rowan in past communications. The firm said any contact was limited to information shared for Leon Black's tax matters and nothing in the new documents changes prior findings. President Trump is gathering with representatives from more than two dozen countries this morning that have joined his Board of Peace, as well as several others that have opted not to.
