News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Nathan Hager. Markets are rallying this morning on the prospect of a resolution to the U.S. war with Iran. In Oval Office remarks heard live on Bloomberg Radio, President Trump says he could see the conflict ending in two to three weeks, and he suggests Tehran could still reach a deal in that time frame.
We've had regime change. We're dealing with people that are much more rational. And it's amazing what we've done.

He also said that the main objective, which is ensuring that Iran doesn't go on to develop a nuclear weapon, has largely been achieved as well. And I think, you know, one other thing that really stood out from his comments yesterday is there was no linkage whatsoever between their... Perhaps anticipation that they're going to be winding down military operations in the next few weeks versus a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
And Bloomberg's Jumana Bersetchi notes a third U.S. aircraft carrier group, the George H.W. Bush, is on its way to the Middle East. And that could take two to three weeks to get there. A withdrawal from Iran would leave its control over the Strait of Hormuz unresolved. But President Trump's piling new pressure on allies to take the lead there. Bloomberg's Tyler Kendall has more from Washington.
In a new interview out this morning with The Telegraph, he did appear to signal that he could withdraw the U.S. from NATO over his dismay of how allies have responded to his demands when it comes to the waterway. Plus, player that with new comments from the Secretary of State Marco Rubio overnight, saying that it may be time to reexamine. The alliance, President Trump is also facing domestic pressure as retail gasoline tops $4 a gallon this week. Politico is reporting new this morning that the White House is considering some other emergency options to deploy in a bid to tamp down on prices.
Bloomberg's Tyler Kendall in the nation's capital. It would take an act of Congress to pull the U.S. from the NATO treaty. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is promising to lead a diplomatic push to reopen the Strait. He says there will be a meeting later this week for 35 nations from the G7, Europe and the Gulf. At the same time, Starmer says the UK won't be dragged into the war.
There's been a good deal of pressure on me to change my position in relation to joining the war. And I'm not going to change my position on the wall. So whatever the pressure, whatever the noise, I'm the British prime minister and I have to act in our national interest.
