News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Karen Moscow. President Trump officially launched his Board of Peace initiative, a project he says will promote geopolitical stability even as its creation spurs reservations from key allies. The president sought to ease some of those worries, saying that the organization would work with many others, including the United Nations.
We'll do it in conjunction with the United Nations, you know. I've always said the United Nations has got tremendous potential, has not used it, but there's tremendous potential in the United Nations.
And President Trump spoke earlier this morning at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He was joined on stage by founding members of the board, Argentine President Javier Millay and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. President Trump is backing off his threat of tariffs on countries that oppose a U.S. takeover of Greenland.
The president said he's reached a framework for a future deal on the island after meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at Davos. But the president is not giving many details.
Well, the deal is going to be put out pretty soon. We'll see. It's right now a little bit in progress, but pretty far along. It gets us everything we need it to get.
And President Trump spoke after his meeting at the World Economic Forum. Secretary General Ruda says the issue of Greenland's sovereignty was not part of the discussion. But he says they did make a commitment to Arctic security in a practical sense.

Chapter 2: What initiative did President Trump launch to promote geopolitical stability?
natural gas futures are rising to the highest level since 2022, it's because of a powerful winter storm that'll bring frigid weather to a large part of the country. We want to get the latest with Bloomberg meteorologist Rob Carolyn. Rob?
Major winter storm will be developing in western and central portions of Texas by Friday afternoon as energy from the Pacific works its way inland. The storm system is going to produce snow and ice as we head through the weekend across more than 30 states. Looking at numerous states under winter storm watches currently, they'll be converted to winter storm warnings by tomorrow.
Looks like the storm is going to track across portions of the upper Gulf Coast and the lower Tennessee River Valley and then redevelop off the coast of mid-Atlantic states by Sunday night. That'll continue to bring snow to portions of the northeast Sunday and Monday. I'm Rob Carroll in Bloomberg Radio.
All right, Rob, thank you. Some other stories.
Chapter 3: How is President Trump addressing concerns from allies regarding his Board of Peace?
We're following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rushed to Davos for a meeting with President Trump as he seeks to push forward with a deal to end Russia's war. Zelensky arrived in Switzerland today after saying earlier this week that he was unlikely to travel to the World Economic Forum's annual meeting.
The Ukrainian leader has been overseeing efforts to respond to massive Russian airstrikes that have left millions of people in vast areas of Kyiv and several other regions without heating, power and water during freezing winter weather.
The number of people reported killed in Iran's protest crackdown has surged as rights groups continue to verify suspected fatalities, with the United Nations warning the total could be more than 20,000. The U.S.-based human rights activist news agency said it has verified 4,902 deaths during the unrest that erupted in late December.
The group is reviewing a further 9,387, while more than 26,000 people have been arrested. Supreme Court justices are suggesting they are wary of President Trump's effort to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook over unproven mortgage fraud allegations, saying the move could upend the Fed's independence and rattle markets. The court is set to rule by July.
Maine has become the latest target in the Trump administration's immigration enforcement wave. The Department of Homeland Security named the enforcement operation Catch of the Day, an apparent play on the state's seafood industry. General Electric is forecasting a full-year profit ahead of Wall Street expectations.
It's signaling the world's biggest maker of jet engines expects demand for air travel will help it shake off lingering economic concerns. Procter & Gamble's growth in a key sales metric stagnated in the latest quarter, while volume slipped, and it's showing that U.S. consumers spent cautiously in the final months of the year. Taking a look at futures this morning, they are on the rise.
With stocks set for a second day of strong gains as the relief rally over President Trump's pivot on Greenland continues with a flurry of activity in the artificial intelligence space adding support. S&P futures up 0.5%, Dow futures up 0.25%, Nasdaq futures up 0.9% and the 10-year Treasury yield 4.24%. And that's news when you want it with Bloomberg News Now.
