News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Amy Morris. Just outside the White House briefing room just moments ago, President Trump told reporters that Iran wants to make a deal.
We've been called this morning by the right people, the appropriate people, and they want to work a deal. They would like to work a deal.
President Trump's deadline has come and gone for a naval blockade of Iranian ships near the Strait of Hormuz. In a social media post earlier today after that 10 a.m. window closed, the president promised to eliminate Iranian fast attack ships that come close to the blockade. Bloomberg's Dan Williams has details from Jerusalem.
It's not a full closure. It is indeed imposing U.S. military control, U.S. military might over that waterway. The question is, will the Iranians rise to this challenge by perhaps trying to run that blockade or encouraging ships that they deal with to run that blockade, which could actually draw American fire.
Bloomberg's Dan Williams reports Iran, for its part, threatened to target all ports in and near the Persian Gulf if its shipping hubs are threatened. President Trump says he's not going to apologize to Pope Leo because he says the pope is wrong. Pope Leo has vowed to continue speaking out against the war on Iran, promoting peace and dialogue. The exchange has escalated tensions between the president and the pope, who's been denouncing the war in Iran with increasing frequency. President Trump has said Iran can never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. Bloomberg Intelligence Senior Defense Research Analyst Wayne Sanders says the intelligence community cannot afford to be wrong about that.
If you're going to be wrong, you want to be wrong because you have assessed that they had additional capability and then you had to use additional assets to be able to confirm or deny whether or not they have it. What you don't want to do is say, hey, we have enough information right now to believe that that nuclear fissile material is gone and then find out that you were wrong.

NASDAQ up seven-tenths of a percent. The Dow a little changed on the upside. Ten-year Treasury yield at 4.3 percent. The two-year yield at 3.78 percent. WTI crude about 2.9% higher. It's around $99 a barrel. Brent crude off its highs around $99 a barrel. That's about 4.7% higher. Dell and HP shares hitting session highs after a report from the website SemiAccurate said NVIDIA has been in negotiations for more than a year to, quote, buy a large company and it will reshape the PC landscape. Semi-Accurate has been following the story since late 2024 and says the time is approaching to make a deal or walk.
