Karen, we begin with the latest from the Middle East. President Trump says he is giving Iran a last chance to engage in talks after calling off what he says would have been a major attack on the Islamic Republic.
Barry Ritholtz 0:48
I want to give them every last chance before decapitation. Very tough to do what we have planned, still planned. We'll see what happens.
Nathan Hager 0:58
President Trump spoke to reporters in the Oval Office. Now, Tehran denies it's in negotiations with the U.S., but it says talks with Oman to get more ships moving through the Strait of Hormuz are making progress. We get more from Bloomberg Middle East correspondent Abir Abu Omar in Dubai.
Abir Abu Omar 1:12
Iran and Oman are holding negotiations to open a middle passageway in the Strait of Hormuz that would allow for a trickle of movement of ships and vessels that have been trying to make their way through the Strait of Hormuz. And up until yesterday, we've really been still seeing cargo ships attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. And so this negotiation that is taking place between those two countries is still very much key about opening up a pathway that could help ships make their way through the waterway.
Nathan Hager 1:42
Bloomberg's Abir Abu Omar reports a senior Iranian official called on the U.S. last night to, quote, take the first step and change its behavior by returning to the terms of the interim deal that both sides struck in June.
Karen Moskow 1:53
Well, elsewhere in Washington, Nathan, Attorney General nominee Todd Blanch's confirmation may be moving forward in the Senate. Two holdout Republican senators are backing a deal with Blanch to formally rescind an order for a so-called anti-weaponization fund. And he's clarified the scope of President Trump's immunity deal with the IRS that limits it to the tax agency and not other agencies like the Justice Department. President Trump says he was not involved in the deal.
Barry Ritholtz 2:20
I don't know what they agreed. I think Todd Blanchie agreed to reconfirm things that he's already said and what he said was okay.
Karen Moskow 2:28
President Trump again speaking from the Oval Office. Administration critics say Blanche's deal still doesn't change the text of either the anti-weaponization order or the president's immunity from audits. And the Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a vote on Blanche's confirmation today.
Nathan Hager 2:44
And Karen, elections are in focus today as well as voters head to the polls in a handful of states. Bloomberg's Amy Morris reports from Washington.
Amy Morris 2:52
Michigan voters will decide a competitive Democratic primary that will test the party's progressive wing. Representative Haley Stevens takes on former health official Abdul El-Sayed. The winner will face former Representative Mike Rogers in November. Virginia voters will choose nominees for the House and Senate, including in the 2nd Congressional District, where there could be a rematch between two-term Republican Jen Kiggins and the Democrat she unseated in 2022, former Representative Elaine Luria. Primary contests are also taking place in Washington, Kansas, and Missouri.

What did President Trump say about offering Iran a 'last chance' for talks?

Amy Morris 3:23
In Washington, Amy Morris, Bloomberg Radio.
Karen Moskow 3:26
All right, Amy, thank you. Let's turn to the markets now, where futures are higher following yesterday's gains on Wall Street. The S&P 500 rose 1.5%. It is now just striking distance of a record. The positive earnings season is helping fuel gains. The S&P 500 companies are beating expectations at a rate of 86%. That's the highest in five years, according to Bloomberg Intelligence.
Nathan Hager 3:48
And in earnings beats, giving a lift this morning to shares of Palantir, Karen.
