News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Karen Moscow. President Trump is touting an interim deal with Iran at the G7 leaders summit in Evian, France, with the president saying the agreement will reopen the Strait of Hormuz once it's signed on Friday. Speaking at a bilateral meeting with Qatar earlier, President Trump said the U.S. is now dealing with rational people in Iran.
If it weren't for the United States of America, with me, because Obama was the opposite, Israel would not exist right now. Israel would have been blown off the face of the earth, 100%. And every smart person in Israel knows that.
President Trump also vented his frustration with Israel's military campaign in Lebanon, going as far to suggest that Syria would do a better job fighting Hezbollah there. And there are still questions about the opening of the Strait of Hormuz despite this interim deal with Iran. We get more with Bloomberg Middle East correspondent Abir Abu Omar.
Iran is saying that it will not charge a toll for the 60-day ceasefire that will be extended once the Strait of Hormuz is opened. J.D. Vance, the vice president in the United States, says actually there's an explicit clause in the MOU that suggests it will not be told. So you're getting that conflict yet again leading up to this MOU being signed at the sidelines in
And Bloomberg's Abir Abu Omar reports Vice President Vance is expected to represent the U.S. at the signing. Today, Ukraine is on the agenda at the G7. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held morning sessions focused on his country's war with Russia, and President Trump says the two will meet again later today. Bloomberg Chief Europe Correspondent Oliver Crook is covering the gathering in Evian.
Really, it's a sort of re-engagement of the United States in the potential negotiations for peace in Ukraine, possible support for Ukraine. You'll remember that the United States effectively basically walked away from all of the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Obviously, the United States has been largely distracted by the situation in the Middle East in recent months. We heard it from Donald Trump last night, saying effectively that the United States is going to put its attention back on the conflict in Ukraine, back on Russia and Ukraine, and try potentially to bring that to resolution.
Bloomberg's Oliver Crook reports Zelensky's arrival in France comes after Ukrainian drones struck an oil refinery in Moscow overnight, the latest in a series of attacks on Russia's energy infrastructure. The European Union's U.S. trade deal is close to being implemented after the bloc's lawmakers gave their final approval, forging ahead.
What deal did Trump announce at the G7 summit?
despite ongoing transatlantic trade tensions. The European Parliament ratified the agreement today, voting 440 to 151, with 50 abstentions. The passage came just days after yet another threat from President Trump, with the U.S. president going after France over its digital rules. EU countries are now expected to give their final nod on June 26, the last step in a fitful year-long ratification process. Eight crew members were killed in a B-52 bomber that crashed just after takeoff at Edwards Air Force Base in California. The Air Force says the long-range bomber was on a routine test mission when it went down yesterday morning. SpaceX has formally agreed to take over Cursor in a deal that values the AI coding startup at $60 billion.
The deal cements a key part of Elon Musk's efforts to catch up with rivals on coding tools. SpaceX first revealed in April that it had secured the right to buy Cursor later this year, but was holding off because of the rocket company's initial public offering.
