News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Monica Ricks. President Trump and senior White House officials are doubling down on economic pressures on Iran as they try to find a way to reopen the Strait of Four Muz. And now Trump's floating a new idea.
How are the upcoming sanctions expected to affect Iranian oil exports and global markets?
Defeating Iran, which is being very badly defeated. Pretty soon I'll be declaring the Hormo straight, a territory of the United States.
Whether that's real or just rhetoric remains to be seen. But Treasury Secretary Scott Besson has said sanctions will include the continued blockade of Iranian ports in an effort to get Tehran to surrender.

Secretary Besson on Newsmax, he says more announcements are coming next week, but the US has already added some sanctions on Tehran since twenty eighteen, and it's unclear what meaningful measures the US could implement without resorting to secondary sanctions on buyers of Iranian oil such as China. Here at home, Brent Crude closed at over eighty-eight bucks a barrel Friday, and Golf Oil's Tom Close says diesel is even higher.
We're down about seven to eight million barrels a day of refining capacity, much of which was knocked out by drones. And that means less demand for crude. So yeah, crude oil prices are in the eighties, but guess what? The price of diesel is about a hundred and eighty dollars in every corner of the country without taxes.

That's Gulf Oil Energy Advisor Tom Closea. According to Triple A, the national average for regular unleaded gas is now four oh seven a gallon. Meantime, more ships have come under attack in the Strait of Formuz as talks to end the war remain at a standstill. The UK Maritime Trade Operation says a projectile hit the hull of a bulk carrier this morning. Another from Abu Dhabi was hit last night. The US Navy says relief is on the way for the USS Abraham Lincoln as concerns mount about mental health and supply issues over its record deployment in the Middle East. But retired Marine Corps Colonel Steve Ganyard says these sailors still don't have an end date.
Here not knowing for nine months and not being able to do that. That is the toll, and I'm sure that's what's showing up now. Thankfully the George Washington is underway, hopefully about halfway through the uh Indian Ocean.
Search and rescue operations are underway now in Indonesia, where a powerful seven point seven magnitude earthquake caused buildings to collapse and crumble. Dozens have died amid fears of tsunamis and aftershocks.
