Chapter 1: What was the significance of the Blue Jays' comeback win over the Orioles?
Well, Jeff, this game turned out to be quite the roller coaster in the end. The Jays going down quickly, 5-0 early in this one. Austin Voth, eh, not a lot of competitive pitches from both tonight. And the Jays' bats finally came to life. Kazuma Okamoto, two-run bomb. Charles McAdoo. First MLB career hit and home run in his third MLB at bat. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
with maybe his biggest swing in weeks. A 5-0 hole turns into a 6-5 win. First career save for Braden Fisher to boot to wrap things up. But hey, don't look now. They're 29-29. The Jays are finally back at .500.
They are back at 500, show for the first time since April 4th, and I think the biggest takeaway from tonight's game for me is 7 of 10 hits for extra bases. It's something John Schneider has talked about with this team, a lack of slug. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., really, you know, more than anybody else, I think responsible for kind of pulling that number down.
If you look at his percentage of hits for extra bases this year, 18%. That is one of the lowest figures in baseball.
Chapter 2: How did Kazuma Okamoto contribute to the game?
Indeed, it is the fifth lowest figure amongst all qualifiers. It's half. Let me say that again. It's half of his hard hit percentage. Extra base hit percentage, I should say, in 2025. So, yeah, great to see. Doubles are wonderful.
Chapter 3: What impact did Charles McAdoo's MLB debut have on the game?
Home runs are great. And, yeah, you know what? Six runs keeps Austin Voth away pretty much, I guess, is the way to put it.
That is a great Jeff Blair. I'm show Ali. You're listening to blue Jays talk on the sports net radio network.
Chapter 4: How did Vladimir Guerrero Jr. perform in this game?
Also on sports net.ca and the sports net app as well. Give us a call for one, six, eight, seven, zero five 91, triple eight, triple six, zero five 90 star five 90 on your cell. You can text us as well. Lots of texts for us to get to Jeff five 95 90 name and location. The people's text line. is always open on a game like today.
I said this to you yesterday, but for almost a completely different reason, we can go a number of different ways for player of the game brought to you by Capital One. Capital One giving Canadians credit for 30 years. Where are we going for player of the game today?
Chapter 5: What role did the pitching staff play in the comeback?
I mean, to me, it's obvious. It's Vladdy. He's driven in the tying and go ahead run with his double. Just talked about this percentage of hits for extra bases this year for Vladdy.
Chapter 6: How crucial was Daulton Varsho's performance for the Blue Jays?
Half of what it was last year. If this team is going to go anywhere, everything else is great. You know, the bullpen's wonderful, passing the baton, Okamoto hitting home runs, that's all great, but this team really needs Vlade to go in a bit of a heater. And, you know, until the home runs come, I'll take doubles. And I think that was... That, to me, was the telling blow of tonight's game.
And the thing I'm probably going to take away from tonight is the fact that Vladdy got that hit, that signature hit that we've been waiting for. And I think you could tell from his reaction afterwards, too, that there was a certain amount of significance to that hit.
Yeah, he looked like a little bit of weight had been taken off his shoulders to a certain extent. It's interesting too, right, Jeff?
Chapter 7: What does this win mean for the Blue Jays' season moving forward?
Because the first two times up for Vladdy today, I mean, it was pretty frustrating, right? I mean, he swings right through a cutter from Trevor Rogers. Fourth inning, he comes up. Maybe that was perhaps the worst one. I mean, he comes up and swings at a changeup well below the zone for the weakest possible contact. And then to your point, I mean, third AB, a hit.
Then he follows that up by, of course, ripping the two-run double into left field. I mean, again, what? I guess the home run in Detroit, that's probably the biggest swing. And that feels like it was about a month ago, right? It's probably the biggest swing indefinitely, at least the month of May, it feels like.
Caleb Joseph made a good point during the telecast about that single he hit in the seventh inning and how that is exactly the type of swing that gets Vladdy locked in. And we saw that during the next at-bat. So, yeah, those two hits, I think, are really...
They're really going to make this victory even, I think, a little more significant for the Blue Jays because, you know, you, again, all things being equal, if Vladdy can go in a heater, Vladdy is the guy that can, you know, take this team where it needs to go.
You like Vladdy back in the three hole? I know they've kind of ping-ponged him around two to three. Do you think it matters at this point? I mean, where are you at on that for Vladdy?
I mean, I don't like Ernie in the two hole. He just doesn't see enough pitches. You know, my gosh, that first inning. How many pitches? I mean, Springer flies out in the second pitch of the game. Clement flies out. I think it was the first pitch. I just don't like Ernie in the number two spot.
I like Ernie down seventh, eighth, in the seventh spot down there where he can do what he's going to do, and it doesn't necessarily affect. the people all around him. But again, you know, this isn't, this isn't a perfect lineup right now. John Schneider's working through some things.
And, you know, I think to sit here and say that, you know, to kind of focus in one spot is a little kind of foolish. And, you know, Vladdy's looked a little better. to me, since he's been back in the number three hole. But, yeah, I'm just not a big fan of Ernie in the number two spot. If it's me, I'd probably rather have Vladdy in there and, you know, and have Ernie down lower in the lineup.
But, again, you know, a lot of this stuff, too, comes down to swing paths and things like that with the Blue Jays.

Chapter 8: What are the implications of the Blue Jays' lineup changes and trade possibilities?
Uh, speaking of comebacks, the blue Jays rallying from a five run deficit for their largest comeback win of the season. That's a courtesy of sports net stats. Uh, before we go to the phones, I wanted to get to the guy that Eric and Ben dubbed their player of the game. We went with Vladdy, but, uh, Charles McAdoo probably would have been a worthy candidate.
I mean, a two-run shot in the seventh inning. I mean, I feel like anytime you get your first MLB home run in your first game, that probably makes you a decently good candidate to be the player of the game. But two-run shot in his third MLB AB. It is kind of funny, Jeff. He went strikeout, pop-up, two-run bomb.
So he really turned his career around in the span of three AVs, but a four-seamer right at the top of the zone, 93.4 miles an hour from Rogers. He reached out to get that thing. I mean, you're seeing because he was him, RJ, Shrek, Pinyongo as well.
These are three guys, among some others as well, that we had had conversations about over the course of the offseason into this year about maybe some of the options that awaited you in the minors. Not that you were going to be counting on these guys at the beginning of the year, knowing you were you know, Blue Jays have this level of injury, but McAdoo, I think did impress certainly.
And then adding on the pretty play to get the double play, I believe was that in the first inning or the second inning, but early on in the game gets the double play to go stepping on the bag, grabbing the ball. It was the first link to first. Yeah. So, I mean, I was very impressed by the youngster tonight.
Yeah, you know, it's interesting because coming out of spring training, he wasn't a guy you heard a great deal of. You know, he was playing second base today. He hasn't played second base that much. You heard more about Kosevich. You heard more about RJ Schreck, as you mentioned, Pignango to a certain degree.
But, yeah, you know, look, again, as John says, all you can do is take advantage of the opportunities you're given and take advantage of the things that are put in front of you. And, you know, the Jays liked what they saw of him in the minors. The reports in him were really good. He was making good contact. Obviously, the athlete is there. There isn't much doubt about that.
And I think, you know, the fact that they started him at second base in this game says a great deal about, the confidence that the organization has in him, has in him as a player. And, and, Yeah, again, this is a team that doesn't have its full lineup in place. You're going to need contributions from everybody, and everybody includes guys you bring up from the minor leagues.
So, yeah, credit him. And I think on any other day, if anybody else had gotten that double, I would have given it to McAdoo, but I just think when Vlade comes through with a hit like that, given that that's what we expect from him, we expect slug, we expect run producing.
