We'll be right back. I did not think that we were going to come in today and start with football. I don't know where I thought we were going to go, quite frankly, when I started looking at today yesterday around 2 o'clock. Do you ever know, Jared? What's this? Do you ever know where we're going to start? No. I don't. But, you know, I didn't think football was going to be the main topic.
I actually thought it was going to be one of the lighter football days. And then drip by drip by drip. There's a lot of football to get to. And specifically, you know, I start with Geno Smith before we get into some other things, only from the standpoint of, you know, he yesterday, while I have no, you know, who knows what type of player he will be this year. He seems so confident in the way he has matured, the way his game has gotten better. The things he said yesterday genuinely seemed like he's happy to be with the Jets. I'll tell you, I was a Geno fan yesterday, and not that the Jet fans are thinking Super Bowl championship by any stretch, but I came away thinking, this guy seems like he really gets it.
Yeah, I don't listen. I think a lot of people remember, obviously, the rough times. Right. And but I don't think many people have paid attention to Gino's journey. I think the quarterback that he was in Seattle really kind of looked at his career and everything that he's been able to accomplish thus far. His time in, you know, his time in Las Vegas was rough, man. I mean, they had the 31st ranked office in line. They were depleted at the receiver position. They didn't have a very good defense outside of Matt Crosby. There was just a number of issues. And it's tough, too, because he wanted out of Seattle. He asked for the trade. And they got Sam Darnold, and boom, they moved forward and won the Super Bowl.
So it was a tough look. Nevertheless, man, I think when you hear him talk, he understands that, hey, man, I'm not There's that famous line, they wrote, but I didn't write back. That's one of the things he leans on. But nevertheless, man, when you talk about where Geno is right now, I think he's been able to look back and say, hey, man, I was a young kid who stepped into New York full of hope and full of gusto. Things didn't work out. I've learned a lot. I've developed. I'm humbled. I know who I am as a man, which is true. Jerry, I think I've told you this before. I didn't feel like I was a pro until year four or five in my career because you just have to grow up as a man, right? You got to learn what it means to be a pro, how to take the building each and every day, how to develop your relationships with people on and off the field.
All that has to come to fruition. And once you kind of get that, you start to calm down. Things from the neck up seem to kind of get in line. And I think he right now is – I think he's really – I think he feels like he – He wants to kind of rewrite this chapter in his Jet legacy.
So I'm excited for him. I know a lot of people are that played with him. I don't know if Jet fans are as excited, but hopefully he can turn some heads and make things go the right way this coming Sunday. And I agree with all that. I think the best part of it for him is that he's, A, it seems like he actually wants to be here, just reading through between the lines and listening to him, which is kind of a cool thing, number one. Number two, he's got a chance to rewrite the finish because if he goes somewhere else, his Jet career is his Jet career, and he's got an opportunity now to kind of close it in a much better way giving the fans a better sense or feeling about him as a quarterback. And in terms of the Raiders, yeah, I mean, I think a lot of people thought based on the way he played in Seattle, he's going with Pete Carroll, it's going to be unbelievable.
