It's the Boomer and Geo podcast from WFAN. Boomer and Geo coming to you live from the Bill Ford Tough Studio on the Fan and CBS Sports Network. 888-828-1019, the number to join the show. That's the Red Pocket Mobile fan line brought to you by your new Ultimate Cell Carrier, Red Pocket Mobile. Talked a little bit about the Knicks beating Denver impressively and then barely showing up against the Lakers yesterday. but big news in the NBA is Jason Tatum is back, and it doesn't seem like he has taken much time to reacquaint himself with the game of basketball because he looks like himself. He looks really, really good, and he comes off the major Achilles injury. We know that... that it happened against the Knicks in that series, and then he got the surgery right away, right?
Yeah, it was the next morning. He got the surgery right here in New York City, and there was no speed bridge involved. Remember the whole thing with Aaron Rodgers and Dr. Eletroge? We're going to do the speed bridge. We're going to try to get him back on the field. I think he was practicing towards the end of the season, but he was never going to be able to play. This was done the normal way, and it was done quickly at HSS. And he has worked diligently, I'm assuming through rehab and everything else. So he's played in two games. He's averaging 27 minutes a game and 17 points already. Yep. Just like that. Well, we know how talented he is. You knew it wasn't going to be a Deshaun Watson situation where he's going to re-tear his Achilles because he wasn't taking things seriously.
He was going to come back, and he came back earlier than a lot of people expected. Of course, that's going to be an issue for the Knicks, but it's never easy getting out of the Eastern Conference. It's never easy winning a championship, and it becomes a little bit harder if Jason Tatum is Jason Tatum in the postseason.
What are the implications of Jayson Tatum's return to the Celtics?
But I can't, I mean, at this point, it really is impossible to evaluate who these teams are. Because I know James Harden's going to quit in the playoffs at some point. I know he got off to a great start with the Cavs. You know that's happening, right? You know there's going to be an injury somewhere along the line, big injury with one of these teams, because there were two last year. I mean, it's amazing. The Knicks are five games out of first place. Well, the Pistons lost four in a row. Which is amazing. Yeah, I mean, and the Celtics are two and a half games out of first place. I mean, if they, you know, well, yesterday they just couldn't. Again, it's just one of those brick nights. It's just enough already.
It's like, honestly, they're just going through the motions with this regular season. It's like, we'll show up when we want to show up. We'll play when we want to play. If we don't want to play, we won't. And then once the postseason comes, they'll wake up and they'll give maximum effort every single night, you would hope. It's not even that. I mean, like they were missing, again, wide open shots. Yeah, but I mean, it's like lazy, though. You know what I mean? I know. You miss shots when you don't care. But, you know, this is what Mike Brown wants up and down, up and down. Hit your threes, you're going to score 140 points like you did against Denver. So I can't get on him too much. I mean, yesterday was just one of those days where nobody was hitting anything, and Mikael Bridges had zero points.
Yep. That's right. Can't survive if you're the New York Knicks if one of those guys is core guys and Mikael Bridges can't score. When they win, they're obviously well-balanced. They all are in the upper teens. Some of them are in the 20s. Carl Anthony Towns is getting his double-double. Josh is getting his double-double. And Maybe Jalen is shooting around 20 times a game, not 30 times a game, and either OG or Mikael Bridges is chipping in offensively, and that was not the case yesterday. No. I'm going to steal a bit from the warm-up show here and do buzz, no buzz on the celebrities that were at the game. I want you to give me a buzz or no buzz with the celebrities, all right?
