How does 400 kilowatts change the EV charging experience?
Let's begin. Tell me what you've launched this morning and what is your overall plan?
OK, look, we're absolutely delighted to open these two new high speed EV hubs as part of our 15 million EV investment over the last three years. Our EV infrastructure is designed to make charging fast, reliable, convenient and safe for our customers. All of our Circle K branded EV chargers are powered by 100% Irish renewable solar energy, which is a great point of difference for our customers and really builds on those sustainability credentials for customers choosing EV.
Tell me Ciara, 400 kilowatts for people who aren't I've been an EV user since 2018. An early adopter, Tom.
What is Circle K's plan for expanding EV charging locations?
I consider myself, you know, an early adopter. I was there when there was feckle of a network in Ireland and I was having to queue up and I was in a ring ESP almost every time I used the charger to say, can you reset this because it's broken again? I got to be very familiar with the guys in the ESP e-cars. Now, but so I'd be familiar with it. But for people who aren't as familiar with EVs, what's 400 kilowatts? How does it compare to what's normally available?
It's really a game changer. And I'm sure I know you're an early adopter as well. You must have been charging your car overnight with these new high speed chargers for standard vehicles.
How are forecourts evolving with the rise of electric vehicles?
You can be fully charged within less than 30 minutes. So it means you can, you know, charge your car, go into the store, grab some fresh food, some hot coffee or some snacks, use the facilities. So it really does make journeys much, much easier for customers.
That's even faster than most Tesla superchargers, isn't it?
Yeah, it is. Absolutely. Now, it is the way forward because everyone is time poor.
What food options does Circle K offer for EV drivers?
So it's really important that you can have a high speed on the go. Most customers, in our experience, don't stop for a full charge. They're typically topping up while they're on the go.
OK, so you've announced five and four superfast chargers in two different locations. But what's the overall plan?
Yeah, look, our mission is to develop Ireland's largest high powered EV network. And with 41 EV charging locations across Ireland currently, with over 130 charging points currently live, with more hubs planned, I'm pleased to say we are well on our way to delivering that mission.
More hubs planned. What's the largest? How many? Give me a number.
The next one in the pipeline would be probably double the size of Clonshock at the minute and one of our big motorway locations.
Can you tell us where?
Well, I can. Yeah, we have some obviously subject to planning and ESB connections and that sort of good stuff.
car owners listening. And this makes a big difference. The difference between waiting for a couple of hours and waiting for half an hour for a full charge is huge.
Two that I can mention are Kilcullen and Firmoy, big motorway locations for us. And that's where we typically find customers want to charge. They want to use the facilities. They want to get food themselves and recharge themselves. So, yeah, we're really excited.
Ciara, can I ask you, I was doing some research earlier and What I came across is that Circle K, you are the biggest four-court operator in the country. The number I came across was 356 sites across the country with 31% of the market. Is that accurate?
We've more than that. We've about 450. Oh, wow. But we are market leaders. We absolutely are market leaders.
