Just a quick couple of items, housekeeping items, I guess. I'm sorry there wasn't an episode on Tuesday. I had actually recorded one, and something happened with uh with the setup, it didn't save, and so I didn't realize until Tuesday afternoon that it didn't post.
By then I was scrambling to get other episodes ready for uh for today and for yesterday, and I guess it came as a bit of a reprieve because I was gonna struggle to get a Friday episode out. So So long story short, I posted Tuesday's episode on Wednesday, Wednesday's on Thursday, and now I am recording Friday's episode. This is not going to be a regular Friday episode, you know, as far as the fascism stuff goes, this is just gonna be a regular collapse episode. I'm sure we can find ways to intertwine fascism and politics into the conversation and I think we most likely will. Before getting to the main topic, I want to talk I wanted to just talk briefly uh as a follow up to yesterday's episode. There were some new articles that came out that just sort of reiterated the issue with the heat waves going on in Europe.
One article, uh this one was posted first, says at least eighteen dead in France, including two children in hot car as Europe bakes. The temperature in France rose to almost forty two degrees Celsius, which is around almost a hundred and Two children were left in their car for a period of time and passed away. Three elderly people died over the weekend. And another article highlights that 40 people have drowned in France over the past days, I believe it was the past five days, as they sought to cool down to escape the record heat. The article from The Independent talks about how temperatures reached 43 degrees. That's over 110 degrees Fahrenheit. And there's all sorts of fun arguments in the comment section.
This one was posted to our collapse, with a few people trying to argue that this has nothing to do with heat or collapse. But I think it's quite obvious that as desperate people strive to find ways to cool down. They, you know, may not know how to swim well. They may be immigrants who don't know the area well, who don't understand thermal shock, who don't understand currents, other dangers lurking in the water, or as these areas become overcrowded with the number of people swimming in them, it leads to excess death due to drownings. Forty people in just five days drowning as they strive to escape the heat. It reminds me of Ministry of the Future. Obviously, that situation was much more. More dire from a wet bulb perspective, not only was the temperature higher, but it was in an area in India that was much more vulnerable to it.
Not to say that France is not vulnerable to it, we are seeing that it is. In that heat wave in Ministry of the Future, it's millions and millions of people that die. So this uh this occurrence in France and the UK is obviously a very small-scale example. But what's interesting to me is Is is the idea that these deaths don't just occur from heat stroke, but there are all sorts of effects that heat has on the human body. We'll continue to monitor this. And I'm guessing that throughout the summer, as we're having articles on unrelated topics, we'll probably just do little updates here and there on, you know, weather events and things as they're occurring. All right. With That let's get on to today's actual topic, which is an article that was posted in MSN and a second one on Science Alert, which are studies that talk about the effect that the world's richest 10% are having on humanity.
