How did Brooke and Connor kick off this episode and catch up after tour life?

Brooke Averick 0:07
Okay.
Connor Wood 0:08
Okay.
Brooke Averick 0:08
I mean, how do you even like... I mean... How do you even begin something like this?
Connor Wood 0:12
We haven't done this in so long.
Brooke Averick 0:14
What?
Connor Wood 0:14
We haven't done this in so long.
Brooke Averick 0:16
I know. I think I'm going to dig into my cans. Is that crazy?
Connor Wood 0:20
What do you mean?
Brooke Averick 0:21
Look, Izzy got me... Look at this box Izzy got me. I did fully forget it was my birthday. When I walked in, I was like, thank you for welcoming me back from tour. I forgot it was also my birthday until I saw the balloon. But of course... I have a box of amazing things here from Izzy. Because why wouldn't I? She's beyond. Izzy, you are beyond. And she took care of my boys while I was gone the whole time.
Connor Wood 0:47
Izzy, you watched the cats?
Brooke Averick 0:48
I did.
Connor Wood 0:49
Wow.
Brooke Averick 0:50
Three weeks she watched those boys.
Connor Wood 0:52
I'm feeling like when you haven't seen someone in a long time and you get shy a little bit.
Brooke Averick 0:56
I feel weird.
Connor Wood 0:58
Also, I'm in a space with two young men that I've just met today. And so I'm also getting to know them.
Brooke Averick 1:05
Yeah. Yeah.
Connor Wood 1:07
And so I'm feeling a little shy.
Brooke Averick 1:08
Have you asked their names?
Connor Wood 1:10
I know Derek and Gabe. Yes.
Brooke Averick 1:13
Derek and Gabe. Hi.
Connor Wood 1:14
Yes. There's nothing like me, Derek and Gabe in the room. When me, Derek and Gabe walk in the room.
Brooke Averick 1:21
There never has been. And I don't know if there will be again, but God, I hope so. That's all I can say. Anyway, there's cans in here that I was thinking of digging into because I'm nervous to see you again. But I don't know if that would make it worse or not. Oh, my God, Izzy. She got me teals. Did you see I was out? Oh, my God. Relax and relief. Eucalyptus and spearmint. I mean, she's freaking amazing. And books and shit like that. But anyway, we can start talking.
Okay.
Connor Wood 2:10
Welcome back to Brooke O'Connor Makeup Podcast. Welcome back, Brooke. Thank you for having me. Welcome back. New York Times best. I haven't talked to you since you went New York Times bestselling.
Brooke Averick 2:18
I haven't. I know. I have. I've been completely on the road.
Connor Wood 2:21
I know. It's insane. Congratulations.
Brooke Averick 2:24
Thank you. I feel.
Connor Wood 2:25
I seriously feel like.
Brooke Averick 2:26
On one hand, I feel like I've lived five lives. And on the other hand, it's like nothing's happened. So it's a weird. It's a weird mix.
Connor Wood 2:33
It'll sink in at some point. How was it? Rose and Thorn of Booktour. Ooh.
Brooke Averick 2:41
Good question. I mean, overall, like if you told me a year ago that I'd be like traveling for three weeks straight, getting up on stage every night, like different city every day, I'd be like very funny. But I learned that I can do really hard things and that's amazing. Overall, it was like the most positive experience. It was so great to see everyone. And I would say I had kind of like a life changing moment, I think, in New York. And you were there.
Connor Wood 3:15
Yeah.
Brooke Averick 3:16
I think my first show was exactly what I needed. You were not backstage when I was refusing to go out, right?
Connor Wood 3:23
No. No.
Brooke Averick 3:24
Okay. At the beginning of the New York show, I was like, and this was the first one, this was on pub day. I was like, I'm not going out. And I was like, truly, there's multiple stages of a panic attack for me, but I was like in the early stages with like extreme opportunity for advancement. Like I felt like it was like, it was like about to go into like a real one where like, I'm not able to do it. Like I can't breathe or talk or like see.
Connor Wood 3:51
Extreme opportunity for advancement.
Brooke Averick 3:53
Yeah, I was in the early stages prognosis grim.
Connor Wood 3:56
Wow.
Brooke Averick 3:57
Yeah. And then I was like, I can't go on the stage. Like, we've got to call it. And then I got a cup of ice to regulate my body temperature. And someone gave me a small fan. And then, you know, you were there. I kind of just walked out and was like, I'm fine. panicking and then that when that was met with like cheering like that was kind of a life-changing moment for me in the sense that like wow like and I've told every I told every stop this and I teared up every single time so sorry if y'all have heard this but like it was kind of like oh this like really deep scary thing that I have hated about myself my whole life and people are like meeting that with such care and kindness and compassion. And that kind of set me on a great, set me on the right foot for tour.
Brooke Averick 4:56
And so I kind of kept thinking about that moment as I navigated those three weeks.
