30.17 - 51.113 Dr. Laurie Santos

Dr. Laurie Santos from the Happiness Lab here. It's the season of giving, and this year my podcast, The Happiness Lab, is partnering with GiveDirectly, a nonprofit that provides people in extreme poverty with the cash they need as part of the Pods Fight Poverty campaign. Our goal this year is to raise $1 million, which will bring over 700 families out of extreme poverty.

51.153 - 73.703 Dr. Laurie Santos

Your donation will put cash directly in the hands of these families in need. And they'll get to decide how to use it, whether that's school transportation, purchasing livestock, or starting a business. Plus, if you're a first-time donor, your gift will be matched by giving multiplier, which means more money for those in need. Visit givedirectly.org slash happiness lab to learn more and to donate.

You know, I don't hop on social media enough, but when I do and something catches my eye, I will say it. It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Say it out loud or just comment? I'll bring it up because Brooke left some type of comment online that got a lot of traction. I'm going to paraphrase because I don't have the exact quote written here. What did I say?

0

192.643 - 199.231 Dr. Priyanka Wally

On Twitter, she wrote, the number one scourge of this country is uggos.

0

199.252 - 202.997 Unknown

I did not say that. I haven't been on Twitter in like over a year.

0

203.778 - 227.492 Dr. Priyanka Wally

You're so dumb. I didn't want to heart it, but I did. You're so dumb. Just to show support for my coworkers. But I bring it up because according to a new article, the rest of the world may be ahead of us when it comes to the beauty game. Oh, duh. Thanks to some interesting new treatments and bizarre beauty hacks that everybody else is doing to look more snatched. Ooh.

227.472 - 247.611 Dr. Priyanka Wally

Are you giving us world beauty hacks, Jeff? I am, and specifically for the ladies, I'm curious, have you heard any of these before? I feel like you would be more in touch with the fashion and beauty trends than the guys would here. Of course they are. I want to know, have you heard about them? Would you try them? Because the first one is LED eyelashes. Oh.

249.012 - 267.356 Dr. Priyanka Wally

They got popular in South America and made their way all the way to the United States not too long ago. Right now, if you try to get them at Walmart, they're all sold out. Okay, so it's a strip of little LED lights that looks like you glue it on your lash line. They're pretty cool. I wonder how well you see, though.

267.376 - 284.818 Dr. Priyanka Wally

You know, if it's like looking at headlights all day long coming into your eyeballs. Are you saying if you can't see, that would be a bad thing? I mean, I can't see most of the time anyway. There you go. What's the difference? I don't know. If I put them under my glasses, are we going to reflect them back? It's a hot mess. Now, like Alexis was saying, they'd be perfect for festivals.

284.838 - 306.492 Dr. Priyanka Wally

They're safe for parties. Maybe you could use them to guide a plane into the terminal, direct them in, blink the right way. So they're out there. LED eyelashes. Anyway, next up, ear makeup. Ear? It's really big in Asia right now. I'm showing a picture. Brooke, how would you describe ear makeup? It's basically flower tattoos that they put up all up their lobe instead of extra piercings.

Chapter 3: What is ear makeup and how is it applied?

306.692 - 318.51 Dr. Priyanka Wally

To me, it looks more like your ear has like a fern gully fungal growth all over the outside of it where you might want to check in with your doctor. She's a fairy. Are they fake tattoos? Are they painting these on? I don't know. It's makeup. They're not tattoos.

0

318.53 - 320.714 Unknown

I mean, it's kind of impressive. It's really good.

0

320.794 - 341.623 Dr. Priyanka Wally

I don't know how you could do that on your own ears. I know. Yeah. Okay. So you would wear them? I mean, I couldn't do it on myself. It would not look like a flower. But if someone did it to me. I only have six flowers on my right ear. Not cute. If you're just joining us, we're going over the strangest new beauty treatments and hacks that the rest of the world is doing right now.

0

342.063 - 368.635 Dr. Priyanka Wally

Could be coming here sooner than you think. Next up, furry nail art. I feel like we're back to the fungal growth again. This sounds so not hygienic. Cosmo is calling it the craziest nail trend of the moment where you attach synthetic hairs to long nail extensions. Does anyone else think it's so weird that we're removing hair for some parts, putting it back on other parts of our body?

0

368.615 - 386.435 Dr. Priyanka Wally

Yeah, it comes in cycles. I feel like, to me, it's like if each of your nails was wearing a Davy Crockett raccoon skin hat. I don't know why I imagine it smelling like a wet dog every time you wash your hands. Imagine eating. You pick up a chicken wing with that thing. But good for tickling.

386.455 - 406.479 Dr. Priyanka Wally

Next up, you've heard of those beauty masks, like the green ones a lot of women wear at night right before going to bed. The latest trend? Bubble masks. It sounds fun. I love a good mask. Brooke, here's the photo. Have you seen these maybe at Walgreens or something? No, it just looks like foaming masks that you put on. Yeah, it's not like bubbles from a bath that you put onto your face.

406.539 - 420.293 Dr. Priyanka Wally

They're selling masks that froth and bubble up once they come into contact with your skin. And it creates a thick layer of foam, turning you into a human-sized cloud of moisturizing bubbles. Yeah, I like it. And it's not just for the face.

Chapter 4: What is the concept of furry nail art?

420.313 - 430.149 Dr. Priyanka Wally

It's for the whole body. Sure. Foam me up. I mean, once you have a mask on, you're not moving from your couch anyway. So you might as well foam me. Yes. I love it. You guys are on board with all of these. I'm a little bit surprised.

0

430.189 - 432.553 Dr. Laurie Santos

Not the nails. No, not the furry nails.

0

432.653 - 442.429 Dr. Priyanka Wally

Oh, okay. X-Nay on the furry nails. But finally, one plastic surgeon is trying to stand out above the rest by offering LED glowing breast implants.

443.759 - 461.804 Dr. Priyanka Wally

Now we're talking. I'm into it. Do you guys know the scene from Dumb and Dumber where he thinks there's an oncoming truck? Why on earth would you want your boobs to glow? They call it the illuminate implant. Dude, I call it cancer waiting to happen. This is going to sound made up, but it's real.

462.064 - 473.92 Dr. Priyanka Wally

You can use an app on your phone to change the colors or the frequency of how fast you want them to blink. Oh, because they can't blink. I forgot. So why be a human when you could be a human disco ball?

474.701 - 474.982 Radhi Devlukia

Exactly.

475.002 - 483.413 Dr. Priyanka Wally

I can imagine having meetings here at work like, Brooke, I'm sorry, you're distracting us. Can you turn them off? Well, I want to know if I can get the right and left going at different times. You can. Or to music.

483.914 - 484.935 Radhi Devlukia

That is an option.

Chapter 5: How do bubble masks work and why are they popular?

506.707 - 530.358 Dr. Priyanka Wally

America, we're finally getting beautiful again. Okay. Those are the strangest beauty trends happening all around the world right now. Text in to 78592. Should we give out a pair of glow-in-the-dark boobies for Christmas this year? I don't know why they have to be just for women. I mean, men, you could easily put some LEDs up in yours as well. What, your grandpa won? Okay, Gramps, pop them in.

that talking about trauma isn't always great for people. It's not always the best thing. About a third of people who were traumatized as kids feel worse when they talk about it, get very dysregulated.

Chapter 6: What are the benefits of LED glowing breast implants?

689.632 - 706.388 Unknown

Hey, we're so excited for tonight. Before we come over, though, may I ask if there are any unlocked guns in your home? Our guns are stored securely, locked in a safe that the kids can't access. Awesome. Learn how to have the conversation at agree2agree.org. Brought to you by the Ad Council.
