Chapter 1: What is the purpose of the Pods Fight Poverty campaign?
Dr. Laurie Santos from the Happiness Lab here. It's the season of giving, and this year my podcast, the Happiness Lab, is partnering with GiveDirectly, a nonprofit that provides people in extreme poverty with the cash they need as part of the Pods Fight Poverty campaign. Our goal this year is to raise $1 million, which will bring over 700 families out of extreme poverty.
Your donation will put cash directly in the hands of these families in need. And they'll get to decide how to use it, whether that's school transportation, purchasing livestock, or starting a business. Plus, if you're a first-time donor, your gift will be matched by giving multiplier, which means more money for those in need. Visit givedirectly.org slash happiness lab to learn more and to donate.

Chapter 2: How can donations help families in extreme poverty?
This week, I am joined by Anna Runkle, also known as the Crappy Childhood Fairy, a creator, teacher, and guide helping people heal from the lasting emotional wounds of unsafe or chaotic childhoods.
Talking about trauma isn't always great for people. It's not always the best thing. About a third of people who are traumatized as kids feel worse when they talk about it, get very dysregulated.

Chapter 3: What are the benefits of being a first-time donor?
Here's a way to start a conversation. Your family is going over to your neighbor's home for dinner for the first time. How would you ask if there are any unlocked guns in the home? Hey. Hey, we're so excited for tonight. Before we come over, though, may I ask if there are any unlocked guns in your home? Our guns are stored securely, locked in a safe that the kids can't access. Awesome.

The Grinch is up to no good again. Uh-oh. And you know what she eats for the holidays? Children. Roast beast. Newbies. Oh, yeah.
Chapter 4: What challenges do people face when discussing trauma?
Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum. She is a mean one looking to chomp down on another new player, Kyle, today. Oh, not Kyle. Tasty little Kyle. Come here, Kyle. Hoping to dash his Christmas hopes and dreams with maybe a little squirt of sriracha on the top. Aren't you looking plump, Kyle? Kyle, welcome to the dinner table, my man. Oh, thank you. I mean, I can be tasty. All right.
He's presenting himself to you. A snack or a full meal? What do you go with there, Kyle? Oh, this time of year, I'm definitely a full meal. Kyle, it says you listen to our show every morning with your boss, Andrew. Yes, sir. That's interesting. We get a lot of people that say they listen with their kids in the car or their significant others, but you and your boss cuddle up and listen together.
That's kind of cool. Wait, on company time? Yeah, and actually cuddling up together and listening to it's the perfect description of how it goes. I love where you work. Yeah. That sounds awesome. He's spooning him right now.
That's sweet. All right.
Tender. Okay, tell your boss to be quiet because we're going to get to the questions here.

Chapter 5: How does the podcast Health Stuff aim to demystify health questions?
You got 30 seconds to answer as many as possible. If you don't know when you can say pass, but you have to beat Brooke outright if you want to win, are you ready? Yes, sir. Good luck. Your time starts now. Jay-Z celebrates a birthday today. Is he in his 40s or 50s? 50s. What company makes phones called the Galaxy? Samsung. The actor Jon Voight is the father of what famous female actress?
Angelina Jolie. Pass. Pass. In hockey, it's called a face-off, but what's the term used to start every NBA basketball game? Pit balls. Oh, okay. I already know we're going to hear from Brooke. I know. I know which one you're talking about, Joe. Yes, exactly. Something is going to happen when we get to that question.
But in the meantime, Kyle, it says on my screener here that every Christmas morning, you go visit with your in-laws and you have a family tradition where you all watch Christmas Story, which plays on loop on TBS. Mm. Just watch it all day? No. We typically will watch it one full time through, but it will stay on here and there throughout the day. Yeah.
There's a couple channels, like Hallmark, Freeform. They just have all stuff all the time. What's your favorite part of the Christmas story? Oh, it's definitely when Ralphie beats up Buckus. That's pretty good. Is that the end? No, no, that's in the beginning, and he's, like, cussing, and he loses his glasses, and then his mom comes, and he starts crying.
I need to watch it.
That's not in our Christmas rotation. I always like when Ralphie falls down, and he can't get back up. Is that the one where he puts his tongue on the pole? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I do remember that. Ralphie falls down in his snowsuit so big. Yeah, he can't move. I still remember. Anytime a child is in peril, Brooke just bursts into laughter.
It's great. What about stupid kids?
I can't put my arms down. Oh, Kyle. Thanks for bringing that joy to the room. It's great. She's so happy. You can't stop smiling.
Are you ready to play, Brooke?

Chapter 6: What strategies can be used to discuss gun safety with neighbors?
What famous European building is nicknamed the Iron Lady? The Eiffel Tower. In the movie Frozen, what's the name of the snowman? Olaf. In hockey, they call it a face-off, but what's the term used to start every NBA basketball game? Tip-off. Yay, my husband will be so proud of me. If you got it right. I think I did. Let's go to the scoreboard and see how you both did with Jose.
I would like to take sex for 500. Sex? What? BolaƱos. Kyle, you got four correct today, man. Whoa. That's a good score. Oh, thanks. That's a great score. Brooke, six correct. Well done. Well done. It's because I didn't have my boss whispering sweet nothings in my ear and distracting me, Kyle.
Kyle.
Let's go over the answers for everybody. Jay-Z celebrates a birthday today. He is in his 50s, turning 56. He looks it. He's always looked it. He's been 50 since he was 30. No one is going to guess 40s.
Yeah.
The company that makes phones called the Galaxy is Samsung. Samsung Galaxy is the Android version of the iPhone. Team Android. John Voight is the father of actress Angelina Jolie. The European building nicknamed the Iron Lady is the Eiffel Tower in Paris. That's cool.

Chapter 7: What is the significance of holiday traditions in family gatherings?
I thought we were going to have an is the Eiffel Tower a building conversation. Oh, God. Don't start her. Thank God we didn't get there. In the movie Frozen, the snowman is named Olaf. In hockey, it's called a face-off. In NBA basketball, they call it a tip-off or a jump ball. We also would have accepted. So, Kyle, I'm sorry it wasn't enough to beat Brooke.
You're going to have to baste yourself in gravy because she's going to consume you for dinner.
Have your boss do it.
All right, I'll start on that right now. Okay, perfect. But just for playing, we are going to give you a family four-pack of tickets to the Issaquah Reindeer Festival at Cougar Mountain Zoo. Take part in the most unique celebration in the Northwest happening November 28th through December 23rd.
Oh, that's awesome. Thank you.
Hey, thanks for being on the show for the first time. Does it make you want to come back or never listen again? Oh, I am definitely coming back. It was awesome having you on. Come back and play again soon. We're going to do Winbrook's Buck same time tomorrow.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
