We're talking spendfulness. Maybe you've heard that word over the past couple of weeks around here at YNAB. So we wanted to dive into it. What is it? Where did it come from? What's going on here? This is weird. And then we also wanted to talk about the YNAB method because that has changed as well.
It has. And I know it's a big deal. Don't freak out. Because really, really actually don't freak out because it really is. It's the same principles we're teaching, but we're just repackaging it a little bit and making it better for new people, I think. So it's really exciting time. We'll go over all of it. But. I wanted to call out a few more people. Mindy in Alaska. That's cool. Oh, transplanted to Oregon. Okay, so you're Alaskan. Yeah, I feel like if you're an Alaskan, you're like always an Alaskan. So you're always going to say, right? I mean, I'd be proud if I was Alaskan. And Chris is in Virginia, real close to me. Diogo in Portugal. Cool. Folks from all over. Yeah, I love to see it.
It's like one of my workshops. I mean, it's crazy, you would think, you know, but they're all over the place, especially on Mondays, Monday afternoons.
Aaron says I'm having a good hair day. I am having a good hair day today, Aaron. It's going well. It was a good day. I appreciate it. You know, I never know when it's going to work out, but it worked out today.
Your hair does come up quite often. We'll pop on the camera and you're like, yeah, I'm having a good hair day today.
I'm like, yeah, absolutely. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. People are like, what's your hair routine? I'm like, I don't know. I put conditioner in it and that's about it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. All right. So let's talk about spendfulness. This word, I'm going to put it up with shinies on either side. Spendfulness. What does this mean, Ernie? What are we talking about? Let's go over what it is, and then we'll talk about our process of how we kind of landed here, how we got here. Absolutely.
So it's a state of alignment. It's an alignment of the way you spend, with the life that you want to live.
Yeah.
I love it. It's that simple.
Yeah. It's, it's, and I like the, it's a state. It's like a, it's like a, a place that you can be in your mind. You know what I mean? Uh, like a, a way that you can live. It's not like a thing that you achieve or something that you, uh, are done with. It's just a place that you can be. And it is a portmanteau, which is one of my favorite words. What is that? Port, a portmanteau. Yeah.
Please explain.
So a portmanteau is when you take two words and you smoosh them together. Like, I can't think of a single example, but this is spending and mindfulness.
Got it.
Mindful spending. Spendfulness.
What is 'spendfulness' and why is YNAB introducing a new term?
So if you're ever like, what the heck does this mean? Just say, yeah, it's mindful spending. So why did we make up a new word? Why don't we just say mindful spending? Because marketing. That's why. Because if you say... Oh, this is about mindful planning. People are like, okay, that's cool.
