You are not alone. No, you are not. Friends, welcome back to another episode. Great to have you with us. Today we're talking about templates. YNAB templates. Pre-made categories for your YNAB plan. And what Ben and I did is experimented. We took a page out of Jesse's playbook. We each picked a template and we used it. And we're going to report on what that experience was all about. But Ben, I thought... Before we get into the templates experiment, let's recap FanFest because this is the first time that you and I have gotten together to record Budget Nerds since being together live in Minneapolis. So I just wanted to talk about it.
Yeah, it was so special. It's recording on June 24th. So I guess it's like a week, two weeks after the Fan Fest in Minneapolis there.
What is time? I don't understand it anymore.
It feels like it was like a million years ago because so much has happened. But man, it was, it was so special.
What are YNAB templates and how do they work?
Like, I feel like we had like a lot of Midwest nice, like everybody was so, I mean, even like, okay, everybody was really sweet in California, but like it was just like an extra layer of politeness.
Midwest is different. People waiting in line to talk to Oz are like, oh, I'm sorry. I'm taking too much time.
Yeah, it was really sweet. Just a fun time. We had tons of talks from Ben and Dave and Jesse. And we got on there with Ashley. That was really special. We might be posting. I'm not sure if we're going to do it. We might be posting the recording of that live taping of Budget Nerds. sometime soon. But yeah, we just had a really fun time. It was really special.
Yeah, I love all FanFests, but I especially loved this one because it was in my backyard. It was in Minneapolis.
Yeah, you didn't even have to fly. I didn't have to fly.
You just drove an hour. I live in Eau Claire, and so it was like a 90-minute drive for me. And my wife, Christy, got to be there for some of the time.
How did FanFest influence this episode and community connections?
My youngest son, Simeon, got to be there.

And he acknowledged that.
That he had a good time, right? He said it. He did. You should tell them what he said during our talk about the... This is even more boring than... What was it?
Than the organ concert. So, Christy and I, we took the boys on this... mini trip a number of months ago. It was during the winter, and we were looking for things to do, and we're like, oh, there's this free organ concert at a local church. I think we were down in Madison. And we're like, hey, here's a new experience, and so let's go ahead and try it. It's something to do, right? Teenage boys love organs. Everybody knows.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, they should.
Honestly, they're awesome. But they are.
It is such a cool sound. And there were bagpipes as well. So Christy and I were like, I mean, it was kind of tough for us to get through the entire two hours. But like, hey, this is this is new. And it actually was kind of cool. But the boys like they were not a fan anyway. To FanFest, our budget nerd session, and Simeon turns to Christy and was like, this is more boring than the organ concert.
But it wasn't actually boring. If you're a vegetarian, you would have loved it if you were there. Everybody that was there, I'm sure you guys loved it. But if you're a 16-year-old boy and it's your dad, well... Right.
It's the worst thing I could possibly do. But at the end of the day, he ended up saying... I overheard him talking to Kristen. He's like, actually, I kind of did have fun. Especially because he got to go to the celebration dinner with us. It was free food. He got to meet a lot of my coworkers.
It was so funny. I was eavesdropping on you because you were right behind me. So it was one of those places. I've never been to a place like this. It's like a bar. So we had a dinner with the team after FanFest, right? And so it was like a bar with a bunch of food trucks, but they were not food trucks. A food hall, right? food hall it was like a food court but like cool yeah i put it that way yes and uh we had these little wristbands because why not was paying for a meal and i just remember hearing you behind me talking to your you're talking to simeon being like he's like so we can just get whatever we want he's like yes he's like so can i get that and that he's like well you know you get one meal you can't he's like
