Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Welcome to the Busted Open After Dark Podcast. I'm your host, Tommy Dreamer. The state of AEW after double or nothing and the third title reign of MJF, and I'm going to talk about it right now.
This is the Busted Open Podcast.
Chapter 2: What is the state of AEW after Double or Nothing?
Coming off of Dynamite's Double or Nothing pay-per-view, they kind of switched gears. I liked what I saw because it was like Dynamite, I'm sorry, Double or Nothing ended the majority of the feuds, and now we have a whole...
next place where we're gonna go and uh philly brought the energy for most of the show they were tired it is a work night a little different from memorial day weekend um and they have seen a lot of lot of action i'll start right off the bat with uh what i love about professional wrestling um Yes, we had really good wrestling, but the promos hooked me a lot tonight.
And the better part to what we do to set up feuds is what we just had or the last thing we saw. Obviously, at Double or Nothing, we have a new world champion in MJF. But the bigger, more concerning news was Kevin Knight attacking Darby Allin while laid out on a stretcher, splashing him. And for what reason? It had me a little baffled. I had MJF a little baffled, and we opened the show with it.
Kevin Knight got a round of booze, so good for you. The AEW sickos don't like you. And you went out there and you got some heat. And you explained your why, why he did what he did to Darby Allin. Again, that was exactly how he kind of phrased it. Everyone's been talking about it. I was thinking about it. And he told me why. Darby let him down. Darby let the fans down.
And I told you, Darby, don't do that. And you kind of put this whole scenario of why... He is now bad. I had said once I saw Kevin Knight. Kevin Knight's an amazing wrestler. And the more promo time he got, as a babyface talking about yourself in the third person, as the Jet, will start to rub people wrong. But I like that he got comfortable and he was kind of doing...
all of this before um so you've gone from good to bad because of your dynamic wrestling skills if you continue to go the path of good they'll pro i mean bad they'll probably then start cheering for you but right now we're in the heel part and when i say cheering for you i'm hoping you have a nice two-year run as a as a top baby face looks the part talks the part acting the part
Still has to get a little bit comfortable in that heel road and that heel... tone and vernacular. I liked how he was, you know, switching it up, but learn from the great ones. And you have a lot of great real people in that company who know how to be heels and get heat. But I thought Kevin Knight on his first real heel promo did an excellent job.
And then of course, who's going to interrupt him of him telling him his why is his old partner. Speedball, Mike Bailey. Wearing, I would guess, it's a business casual gi. Different attire, but Mike Bailey will always be different. Interesting, I liked it. Wonder if it comes in a triple X. Uh, they have their words, their friends, and Mike goes a different approach.
And Mike is a really, really good guy. He really and truly is in, in real life. Um, loves the business. And this is a real, like I got real, cause I've had many conversations with Mike, but I've had, I got like real vibes from him as a friend. Like, Hey dude, like I don't, Agree what you did to Darby. And all you got to do is apologize.

Chapter 3: How has MJF's third title reign impacted AEW?
Here comes MJF decked out in very MJF clothes. And MJF dragging, of course, the AEW world title and bringing back the Triple B title.
throwing it in the trash can how dare you he did that a little later but just dragging it like it's a piece of crap because his title means more to MJF and the passing of the ships with you know MJF talking his talk very MJF like and then here comes Kevin Knight and you know MJF another real conversation of
Kind of impressed what you did, and then Kevin Knight put him in his place and was like, I didn't do it for you. Don't misunderstand that. And who's the last person to pin you?
Chapter 4: What was the significance of Kevin Knight's actions against Darby Allin?
It was, oh yeah, me. So, told MJF why he did what he did, but also don't think I won't do it to you. And... Very, very interesting dynamic right there. Obviously, you don't want to go to an MJF and Kevin Knight again right now because Kevin is just turned heel. But down the line, you're setting something up.
Or, you know, I like that he literally looked at the champion in his eyes and basically said, I'm coming for you. And to end that thread, later on, a promo by Mike Bailey, who, again, they dotted their I's, they crossed their T's, they said has recovered from his beatdown. And he makes a challenge for next week to Kevin Knight to have a match. which should be one hell of a match next week.
But then the other thread, MJF. MJF being your new AEW world champion. The guy gets heat. There's so much greatness to what he does. The old school King of the Ring throne being walked out by a bunch of guys. It's a hard thing to carry somebody like that. gets his nice grand entrance, and then basically cuts his promo. And I love the fact that he went down the pro wrestling history business.
I believe he said there was eight people to be a three-time world champion in the inception of the world title or a world title to hold it three times by the age of 30. And... uh quite an interesting also awesome statistic. And I don't feel it's a made-up statistic, because I was trying to do stuff in my head about people being three-time world champion.
I think that's a nice Google or AI search to see who that is. And MJF did everything very, very MJF-ish. And then I love the bringing down the banner and just celebrating everything that MJF loves, and that's him, and that's that world title. and putting himself over, ripping up the town. Philly's been ripped on for years, and some of his stuff was comedy, and you've got to stay away from comedy.
You sometimes got to go deeper. The deeper, if I go cut, how Kevin Knight tied in the Knicks sweeping the 76ers,

Chapter 5: What events unfolded during AEW Dynamite following Double or Nothing?
MJF, you know, you gotta go sometimes. It's the easier way, but that stings hard, especially if you're a die-hard Philly fan. And then, out of nowhere, interrupted by good old Mark Briscoe. Man, Mark looks in great shape. He really does. He's been working out hard on that chicken farm and raising all them children, too. Um...
first off rips down the banner and soon as he does that cut my music cut my music and they have an awesome awesome back and forth and if listen mark briscoe is so unique and so different uh the way he talks the way he works he's a beloved beloved figure uh Could he be AEW world champion? Absolutely. And I love how MJF broke it down of not only this is a great sport, but it's also a business.
And do you think you could be the AEW world champion? It's a big statement. We were talking about when did I host After Dark yesterday? I think I did it Monday as well. But we're talking about the it factor. And that it factor and what you can do is pretty amazing. When you walk down the street, how you can go do all these interviews.
And do you think a company wants to have Mark Briscoe represent you like that? it's a thing. It really and truly is a thing. And, uh, He kind of like, you know, you want to fight? We could do this. And, you know, when MJF just kind of like, this is the comedy, like, uh, no. And here's why. Kind of like, you're a joke. I don't take you seriously. And then he leaves as he's leaving.
And then here comes Bandito. And Bandito challenges him to a match. The comedy part where I'm saying like, you know, you speak two languages and then MJF speaks in Spanish, gets the chuckle from the crowd, brilliant enough to heal on those people and not just go for the pop. Love all the interaction, man. And also, again, commentary on point for basically saying, you're a marked man now.
You're the world champion. We had Andrade cutting a promo about you earlier. We have Kevin Knight. Everybody wants to be the man. And trust me, in every wrestling company, that's 99% of the people and how they become the man now. or the woman, I should say, or how they become the champion. And you are a wanted man when you're on top. That's why they always say it's lonely on the top.
And MJF, by his selling with his face and all that stuff, I like how he gets surprised, like what the hell's going on, and then how he quickly recovers it. Because it shows weakness and security, but then he rolls into, well... Because he's a thinking man. He's a cerebral type of wrestler. And he will always then have the one-up. As simple as... And this is something that I personally loved.
That at the end of that, the music's hitting, he goes. And they're in each other's face. And Roosh puts his forehead against... mjf's face and mjf pushes it back and it doesn't look like it's planned it's like get don't touch me get away from me i'm the champ um so i liked all those flows it also shows the importance of what The AEW World Championship. AEW has a lot of titles.
Each represent different things. We're talking a big concern right now is with the Owen. But at the end of the day, the AEW World title is the top title in the company. I don't know what the secondary title is. Maybe the nation could help me out here.

Chapter 6: How did Kevin Knight's heel turn affect his character development?
It's an achievement. I remember in, you know, I guess baseball when 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases was a thing. And then it became the first 40-40 guy. So stats like that are cool, but kudos to him because, what, Rock... Most of them were all within WWE. AJ was TNA. Flair and Sting were a combination of NWA and WCW. And now MJF. So you're in a very, very elite category. And...
With the resume and, you know, look at the last house that was just drawn. Overall, the entire card was stacked. But, you know, at the end of the day, your main event, you want to be like, yo, thanks for the house, guys. And both guys crushed it. I enjoyed Darby's reign. Darby's reign is long gone. And now we have the third reign.
of mjf and i'm interested in seeing it like i said we got a lot of people gunning for him and obviously the first person getting the shot after a hard-fought fatal four-way uh bandito uh is your next guy for next week Coming up next, I continue the conversation of everything AEW's Dynamite live from Philadelphia. God, been getting heat in Philadelphia for a lot of years.
The promos, man, like I said, it made a lot of sense to set up a lot of our feuds. We have a lot of things going on with a lot of top talent.
Yeah.
My other why, Kyle Fletcher, Okada, Takeshita, gets answered. Here comes Don Callis after... And I liked how they did it. Dynamite goes off the air with... A very, very solid, solid match with Luke Perry, who did the whole Rocky montage. So, yes, AEW gets it. If you're just going to run a wrestling company, just watch every Rocky movie. You'll understand it. Loved how he's doing everything.
all of the Rocky stuff, the training. I would say this though, when I dot my I's, cross my T's, Don Callis gets involved in the match, where was my giant dinosaur? Even with one arm, maybe he could have grabbed Don Callis by the throat, or when Don Callis goes to run away, because you saw it during commercial break, He has a friend. His friend drives a bus. He crashes the bus.
They drive all over the place. Or just don't have Don Callis get in his kicks because, hey, Don wants to get himself over. But he does a great match with the good old Mark Davis. I love the guy. I think he moves so, so great. He's so different. He's so unique. I've been praising him for a long, long time. Now he's one of the champions, rightfully so.
And him and Jack Perry had a freaking great match, man. I loved it. Believable. But, God, Mark Davis is just pure money for every style. He really is. I'm giving him the highest of praises like I always do, but he reminds me of a Stan Hansen. He reminds me of now he's also getting in really good shape. You could tell he's taking this opportunity and running with it.
