What’s the overall premise of this Raw review episode?
Yo what's going on Busted Open Nation and thanks for tuning in to another edition of the Busted Open Podcast. The Bollywood Bullies are back! Uncle Bully and the Maharaja Jinder Mahal talking Monday Night Raw. More specifically, match of the year candidate Penta versus Ray Phoenix, brother versus brother, for the shot at Roman in Mexico City. I love the match! I think Jinder might think a little differently. We shall see. Also, OTM opens up Raw with chaos. It felt dangerous. It felt explosive. Myself and Jinder will break it all down here on the Busted Open Podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. Off the charts main event last night between Penta taking on his brother Ray Phoenix in the finals. Yeah, the finals of that Lucha tournament with Penta coming out on top and him going on to face Roman Reigns online.
on Monday Night Raw from Mexico City on September 14th. Jinder, the floor is yours. Take this match from any aspect that you want. Give us your breakdown, your thoughts, your feelings.
I can't say that I'm surprised, but I am surprised with the result. Penta, who to me was the obvious choice to face Roman in Mexico City on the 14th, I really believe it was a missed opportunity. Rey Fenix had more to gain from this. Rey is an incredible performer, wrestler, but Penta outclasses, I mean, this is a poor choice of words, beats him when it comes to performance, the character, the entrance, Rey's gear, Rey's, not the mask, Rey's gear, entrance, music, Could have been beefed up, and this to me was the opportunity. Put Rey over, give him that generational, I'm not gonna say generational win, generational performance against Roman in Mexico City. That crowd reception, that response, that's going to carry on wherever you go, wherever he's on television, whether that's Raw or AAA, that's going to carry forward.
Rey could have benefited more from the win than Penta.
What do you think, Bully? So the first question I'm going to ask you is who is a bigger star in Mexico, Penta or Rey Fenix? Penta. And you reminded me earlier several times this business is about making money and doing business.
WWE is on the marquee. WWE itself sells the tickets. First time in Raw after, I think, 15, 14 or 15 years. That in itself sells the tickets.
I won't disagree. I believe that if, let me ask you this. Who's got more of a chance of beating Roman Reigns, Rey Fenix or Penta? Neither.
Neither.
We know that, but if you look at it from the believability factor, who has more of a chance of rolling Roman Reigns up or catching Roman Reigns with something, Penta or Rey Fenix? Penta. And I think that's why you go with Penta. I don't think Rey Fenix has a shot in hell, but it's up to Roman to make fans believe that Rey Fenix would have a shot in hell.
Now let's talk about business bully. Yes, WWE isn't the marquee, it's gonna sell out regardless. Do you pick Rey perhaps, this is a terrible example. You take one step back to take two steps forward. You establish a new star. I
believe Ray
is younger.
I'll just say this, Jinder. Because of what you just said, the letters on the marquee, put the asses in the seats and draw the house. I agree with you on that, okay? So there is... an aspect of this conversation where I could agree and go, yep, let's go shock and awe. Everybody thinks Penta is going to win. Let's put Ray Phoenix over. And then it would be up to Roman to design a match that makes people believe that Ray Phoenix has a shot in hell of winning.
Okay, Penta 41, Ray Phoenix 35. They're relatively close in age. Would you agree that Ray Phoenix could benefit from beefing up his presentation? Entrance, gear, music, everything. The full package. Put the WWE machine behind him. There's a WWE machine. It's a real thing. And when it's behind you, it's like
a slingshot. If the WWE is going to get behind a luchador, who's it going to be?
Penta. It's going to be Penta... But we got to build the others up also. Now, inevitably, Penta, I believe Penta and Ray are going to be a tag team. The Lucha Bros are going to be back. You were in the tag team.
